Iivo Niskanen will not only skip the weekend in Goms, but also the coming world cups in the US & Canada, to prepare for Lahti and especiallly the 50k in Oslo instead.

Iivo Niskanen skips a stretch of races with three sprints out of 6 and majority in freestyle? Shock horror.

He will only be missing one classic distance race 8 time zones away from most of Europe. I think it's fair enough that he is aiming to do as well as possible in the 2 races in the season that in theory should suit him the most.

Good. Hes the type of legend that should be on the list of winners in Holmenkollen.

Is Fis really trying to cancel the Holmenkollen 50km for 2025? I hope Norway puts up fierce resistance, or that the race just enters the Ski Classics.

Trying to eliminate one of the few races that is unique, a draw and hasn't been homogenized is peak Fis...

aiming for the last race of the season only can hardly be a good plan either, though.
He should go to Norway early and take a family member/a serviceman with him, so that he can finally have good skis on wet spring snow for once...

looks like Burman should have better waited for those behind. Getting dropped now

edit: anyway, the Norwegians in front are waiting for Svahn

Its not only FIS fault i think, it could be some rotten eggs in the local organization too. It will be World Cup in Holmenkollen in 2025, but it will be sprint (no Drammen in 25) and shorter distance race….

Svahn proved me wrong. Very obvious 4th leg performance in hindsight.

Burman and Poromaa just awful. On the other hand brilliant by Anger and quite good from Häggström.

Yes, it’s confirmed that’s 50k won’t happen next year. But I heard it will instead be held in Lahti the week after. It will be in classic of course and as interval start.

What else would one expect from the Finns?

Good news, but in the future they should hold the WC earlier instead of moving the Holmenkollen. The spring snow in central europe usually sucks anyway...

Agree. They should move it to beginning of February. Sporting vise the issue is it be too close to Tour de Ski, but maybe they could start it before Christmas. The real issue however is they don’t wont it to collide with alpine worlds.

Lahti 50k is actually a thing though. They started the Ski games in 20s as Finnish version of Holmenkollen and mirrored the distance. When FIS World Cup started the events moved closer in time and as a consequence it was changed to 30k in the 80s (and later to 15k).

Ebba not in the first team made the headlines as the just somewhat interested couldn’t understand why (personally I would have taken her over Svahn). The omission of Sundling is also debated, I guess she just wanted to focus on the sprint. But Maja Dahlqvist is for some reason not well liked by the public. People were demanding Byströms resignation solely because he selected her over Sundling in Planica.

A shame Diggins and Brennan decided to skip the event. To me it looks tailor made for USA with two very good women and short legs for the men (especially with a women finishing off). Sweden will be the favorite tomorrow but I can see Norway, Finland and even France challenge. Germany would have been dangerous aswell if they fielded their a-team. Honestly I cannot understand why Hennig is skipping this one unless she went home.
It's silly to put the mixed relay as the first event of the weekend, had it been on Sunday it would be full nations/full teams.

18 year old Samantha Smith qualifying 13th, less than a second behind Diggins. She's been skiing very solidly on the WC for someone so young; sure hope she sticks with XC instead of futbol..

Hard to understand what the US coaches are doing with her, she should be resting and getting prepared for World Juniors. She's at an age where she needs to be working on her technique(which is bad) instead of racing against seniors all the time.

Sprint course looks good for today, tough and short.

The Americans are as bad as the Russians when it comes to overracing young talents...
