Pellegrino 7th in a skating individual start, ahead of guys like Krüger, Moch, Lapalus and 2024 Vermeulen is as crazy as the TMW result.
the fast nature of the course probably played a part there as well. Let's see how that unfolds for the women...

Laukli also mentioned those races as a goal, but hard to imagine how this is supposed to suit her today.

How bad is it? Worse than the stuff I usually complain about? I've seen US coverage of athletics and it did more to foment anti-American sentiment than CIA involvement in Latin America.
I don't subscribe to peacock but signed up for a month because I wanted to see the 10k today; prior to that starting watching the replay of yesterday. Nothing but commercials and mostly Jessie Diggins (though they did show the quarter and semi with Sundling but otherwise skipped all the quarters). Randall and Salmela apparently think they'll be charged with felonies if they stop talking for a few seconds to let the atmosphere through. Nice footage of J Diggins leading the US team (with widely varying levels of enthusiasm/discomfort) in some sort of Texas line dance after Canmore instead of, you know, racing. I know this is what the *** thinks Americans (and I hate admitting they're probably right) honestly want, but this is like the proverbial root canal without novocaine for any serious ski fan.

I look forward to their butchery of the 10k replay later.

This course definitely does not suit her strengths at all. On paper the course doesn't look so hard but some of those hills are real grinders and there really aren't many (if any) places to take a breather; it's all working terrain. Wirth is definitely not the best ski area in the Twin Cities area; my usual spot (Battle Creek) has some truly serious climbs and descents and would be much more in line with some of the tougher WC courses. Problem there is they just aren't set up logistically for a race like a World Cup; the Loppet Foundation putting on the race is the only organization with the human power, money, and backing to put on a race like this, and Wirth the only place it would work from a practical sense. I will say being there yesterday I was very impressed, they did a first class job and the atmosphere was as good as any event I've ever been to.

What was cool was, of course, Jessie was getting extremely loud cheers yesterday but the crowd was really lighting up everyone, it was pretty awesome. Every time Astrid Oeyre Slind came around for warm ups she had an ear to ear grin on her face, Pellegrino actually got pretty emotional at the response he got, and it was really that way for almost everyone. Victoria Carl looked like she wanted to high-five the whole crowd. From that standpoint it was a huge success; lots of goodwill and joy for skiing. The Twin Cities has a huge and knowledgable base of skiers and fans; it's a great ski town when we get snow!

The social media account of the event sent out this link to watch it live: https://watch.outsideonline.com/live-events

No idea about the quality, but that seems to be for free at least, as far as I can see?
Holy crap, how could I have missed this!!?!?!?! Honestly, I don't care about the money part, I just want to see ski racing! Thanks a ton for checking in, very much appreciated. It just started, there is no Kikkan and Chad, which is already a win! ;-) I'll let you know how it went...

edit: A lot of commercials, but at least I can bear the announcers. Hopefully front-loading those before the biggest guns are all out on course. Thanks again.

From all the Americans racing (24 of them), Gus is the one i am most pleased about. He’s raced for the Alaska Winter Stars under Jan Buron, who doesn’t get nearly the amount of praise he should for producing a ton of great skiers over the last 20, 25 years. Of course now his new club, APU, will get the shoutouts, but this is really the work of Buron and AWS.

Gus has also been a huge talent since the junior ranks, on the same level as someone like Moch.

Wow. That sounds genuinely painful. At least Patrick and Mike don't give us Jessie line dancing, although they will probably describe it glowingly while somebody else important is skiing so they can talk about Jessie :tearsofjoy:

Prescient.
Digging doesn't strike me as someone who is pacing this sensibly. I think she's toast.
Jessie was already behind at 1.9k though; just doesn't look like her best day. She'll have to fight for a podium, sure doesn't look like she's beating Sundling today. Jonna with a really strong race; I think the working nature of this course is great for someone with her strength.

edit; Jessie looking tired; she has a real fight to stay on the box.

Sundling on a tear. The win yesterday gave her a lot of confidence, and why wouldn’t it? Fast conditions, a pretty mellow course (similar to Ulricehamn) and looks like Swedish skis running well. The fact that Dahlqvist is high up on the results list bears that out.

yeah, of course not, but it should still be something to make most of the spectators happy.
It's a really good result for her; 4th yesterday and on the podium today. Nice to remind the fans world cup wins aren't something you can just order up on demand. I think the crowd will be very happy with this podium; Frida and Jonna (and the swedes in general) are really popular here and Jessie getting on the box will make everyone happy. All good.

edit: Not to mention Schumacher winning; that goes a LONG ways. He's a very popular guy with US skiers and ski fans and I think Jessie and the rest of the team will be as happy for him as if they'd won it themselves.

Eurosport held a wake, though, after squealing with desperation for her down the finishing straight to at least salvage a podium.
