Good to see Tandrevold back winning.

I can't see Preuß winning the World Cup being significantly slower than Jeanmonot like today.

As for XC skiing, Norway should have put Sanness in the last leg but I think Sweden would have won anyway, these tracks are perfect for Sundling.

As a reference, Fosnæs skied almost 50 seconds slower than Stepanova in the 2022 4x5km U23 mixed relay anchor leg in Lygna, a much easier course. Weber was 40 seconds slower, Kahara 44 seconds behind.

And thoroughly deserved as well. Not just because of clean shooting. She'd have been close even if her competition was clean, where's that come from?
I think there's always a freshness element in the post-Worlds races, Ingrid having missed a lot of the early season probably helps in that respect, but also she seems to have gone in the most optimal part of the startlist for ski performance as well for whatever that's worth. Confidence is a huge factor with Ingrid, though, even more than with most. She has higher highs but lower lows than the majority of athletes for sure.

I can't really see Preuß winning the World Cup overall, unless Jeanmonnot gets sick or something. She's just too consistent that she doesn't drop enough points on a bad day for Preuß to hang on, and also Preuß seemed to have got her optimal form at the start of the World Championships and then tailed off.

Can someone explain how Graabak could possibly use an illegal binding? Is there not a list of pre approved items? It blows my mind.
They said it was a 5-6 year old binding that the team had reused on new skis and they hadn't noticed that it was asymmetrical. I'm not sure if it was a stupid mistake or if there is some advantage to the older bindings. Tom Hilde took responsibility for the mistake.

It's sad the way he's going out, but it's better for the sport that Riiber is retiring. He's so much better than everyone else.

Fosnaes could do the cross country leg with the lead he has after the jump phase.

It's truly a new and improved Northug. They took some of the maxed out stats in "being a jerk" and spent them on what was missing from "skiing skills". If they can't bury him he's going to do the full yo-yo at the back, never see the front, win in a sprint thing that is so awful to watch and see rewarded, but they're really, really making him work for it.

So as soon Poromaa showed strength the other Norwegian stopped trying dropping Klaebo and instead started riding for him.

I think that’s a wrong analysis. Amundsen not giving any gifts here.

I think Amundsen/Kruger gave Poroma a gap to see what he got and if he had pusher on they wouldve attacked up to him.

I think Amundsen is very confident that he will drop Klæbo up from the stadium now. Its been a hard race, Klæbo have been suffering for a long time now and Amundsen are always backing himself.

Northug used to "suffer" hanging onto the back for kilometre after kilometre too. His bluffing was much more pantomime theatre than this though, he used to really overegg it with the kind of mouth agape like a guppy and head all over the place nonsense before easily skiing up through dropped traffic until he could sprint at the end. It's hard to tell because so far he's looking much more assured on this last climb than he did in previous laps and even pushing higher up the line, but that's not to say the elastic won't snap at some point.

It looks like this is just a pure Northug race from him. He's been made to earn it, but it's not the kind of thing I want to see or want to see rewarded.

Just like I suspected. Back of every group, hangs on through each and every one that gets dropped, wins the sprint, total anticlimax after a great race. The guy is incredible, but I just don't enjoy watching him race and don't comprehend why anybody would.

Whatever people think of him he's incredible, and doesn't owe anyone entertainment over results.
Also there's a lot of bitter Bolshunov nuthuggers going to need a hug about now, and I don't even like Klaebo.
