Post race interview niskanen said the no 1 tactic was not to change skis if they are fast enough relative to the leaders. Said had a good second pair too but the one she started with was the best. But finally physique and form were decisive.

Saarinen was happy with the result and planned to change at 25k which she did. She was very happy with the ride today.

So both seem to think the tactic was the right one.

Worked out alright for Niskanen on the last lap though, Bleckur and especially Weng went backwards at speed there. Saarinen finishing with Heidi as well, though they fell behind B?hler who was excellent and just ahead of Vrabcov?-Nyvltov? who looked strong in the chase group when we saw them, those two along with Liz Stephen doing the bulk of the work.

Ok, interesting.

It did work out ok today, but I can't help to feel that Niskanen could have at least been fighting with Kalla all the way in if she changed her skis. Impossible to say of course.

I thought like Saarinen she'd change with one lap to go. The way everybody was staggering up M?rdarbacken on the last lap, a new set of skis could have really gained, but then Kalla had a much tougher time of that climb on the penultimate lap than on the last time round so it might have been a moot point. The way they fell back, Kerttu would have got past Bleckur and Weng (especially Weng, who really suffered on the last couple of hills) anyway.

Imo the finns should have changed with the others but thats racing.

Today - will it be an olsson show or a slow pace sprintfest seems to be the question. Both boring outcomes but no sprint please.

if your local tv is not broadcasting the queen event, there are several ways to stay abreast.

the best imo is nrk direkte (no commercials, hdtv, great commentary and interviews at least an hour before start)

http://tv.nrk.no/direkte/nrk1

if you can't watch nrk, due to geo restriction, most eurosport channels (i mean the english, french, german...) will air the event. The almost sure source of catching it live is fromsport/lemon sport. explore the listings or click eurosport on the top.

http://www.sportcategory.com/c-11.html

if you can not watch for whatever reason but have an internet enabled phone, a great way to stay informed in real time is using the absolutely great FREE fis app (available for both ios and android - i have both and tested them). you can see in real time not only the timing as they pass through check points, but also their GPS tracks. i use it a lot.

some additional info:

the start list:
http://data.fis-ski.com/dynamic/results.html?sector=CC&raceid=24169

course:
exact same as yesterday for women. total elevation gain i reckon is about 1800 m.

watch for olsson, magificat, cologna, vyleg, poltoranin, sundby... (his only race so he will die to win). i dont think (or dont want) northug will matter in the medals. but he has this strange habit of not caring for my opinion :D

it will be a lot of fun !!

I remember days when nrk wasn't geo restricted. Even if I don't understand a word in that language. Sadly, it's no longer.

yep. they went the way most national broadcasters have gone...i guess, to protect their 'intellectual property' and/or to limit the load on their servers to make the service more available for their prime customers...but if you have the skills and enough time to tinker, there are (not to be discussed publicly) ways to go around the restrictions. also, albeit i haven't checked the nrk specifically, there are internet TV portals, that conglomerate 100s of channels from all over the world. since i get by in many languages, i was occasionally able to watch my favourite (normally geo restricted) stations through such portals - totally legally. i guess the portals have no been served legal notices yet ;)

To protect 'intelectual property' lol :D Cross country skiing is so intelectuall as are all Norwegians I suppose. Playing chess while on ski trip cross - country, all paid by crude oil.

Yes, I've the needed skills. But WC is on Czech tv and co-commentator is Neumannova, so definitely it's really good.

Seems like the FIS have finally decided to start doing Eurovision broadcasts like IBU have been doing for the last 5 years, meaning you can always catch the races live, albeit without commentary.

50k live streaming for those without TV coverage here.

in case some are not able to watch i'll briefly note what's going on..

10km behind, the pace is moderate but i would not call a slouch. most fave's are together. there are signs that, surprisingly, manifacat is falling out. cologna, vyleg, polto were quet. norges were in front a lot...a minute ago olsson attcked and vyleg immediately followed...cologna brought back the rest to them, i mean harvey, heikkinen...cant see who else. so far the gap is small.

TV directors far too excited about Olsson and Sundby changing skis to bother to note who didn't and went through in the lead... Sundby then trips over his own feet coming out of the change.

Seeing Vylegzhanin and Poltoranin up at the front is a good sign. T?nseth looked goooood on that last climb. Northug still there, sadly, not that you'd expect them to have dropped him by now.

for some reason, we often see sundby unstable or spaced out as if he was very nervous or stressed out.

it is snowing tigers and wolves :)) and olsson is LOVING IT..
