My impression is that Poromaa is too much in love with himself to be in a relationship with someone, atleast on equal terms.

Ok, the men's field for the 50km race is looking really thin. Pretty much only Burman, Moch + the French vs the Norwegian armada. The most interesting thing is probably Krüger and Holund taking revenge for not being selected for the 50km race in Planica...

What do you think on the whole Alvar Myhlbäck situation? I don't think a 16 year old racing Vasaloppet is gonna ruin him, but only doing ski classics races and specificly training for them isn't gonna do his overall development as a skier any favours. My impression is that he's the kind of kid who stopped growing and filled his frame out really early, physically well ahead of many of his peers in the same age class, but probably already training like a pro. The best result is probably that you end up with a Swedish Sedov, if they continue to develop him that way...

I just saw an interview with Myhlback in Swedish newspaper where he says he will finish this years Ski Classics but next year the plan is to focus on traditional distance skiing and to do World Cup. It’s seems he believes this Ski Classics was something he needed to check off in order to be a good distance skier which is his ultimate goal, I am not sure if agree about that since many skiers in the elite never did something similar. But who knows maybe it’s right for him.

He also said it didn’t felt anything special skiing in the Vasaloppet compared to other Ski classics event, just a little more media attention and of course when he watched the race on replay he saw all the many skiers behind him…

Frankly Vasaloppet isn't that special course wise, other ski classics races are often as long (skiing time wise) and hard.

Italy only sending one man and only becaue he explicitly wanted it makes me sad. One f the worst fields that I can remember. I hope the women's field looks a bit better.

Even from a ranking perspective Italy should have send a few youngsters to grab some free WC points (of course it would also be a nice learning experience) and the actual winter conditions would be beneficial for the Central Europeans.

I really don't know why FIS thought it was a good idea to held the only two 50k races of the season less than one week apart especially in a season in which there was no 30k races apart from the Worlds skiathlon.

They really are one of the worst sports federation out there.

Holund and Krüger with a relatively early change of skis. Suspect they're going to go hard here, Krüger in particular was angered by the snub last week because it was perceived that the NSF were terrified that they would make the race hard and possibly drop Golden Boy.

It's absurd, Graz and Barp are actually racing an Italian fis race today in Falcade, 10km individual start classic, that the former won. A long distance race in their prefered technique would have been a great learning experience, but nope.

I find it hillarious that Zorzi is now campaigning for more real distance races, since he has started working with Altimiras. He thinks the formats at the WC are also better than the usual world cup ones.

Well, at least not everyone is as imbecile as Schlickenrieder, who wants changes that are actually bad for his best athletes...

Top10 only Norwegians this truly is a very dark time for the World Cup and for cross-country skiing as a whole, at least Krüger and Holund came 1st and 2nd.

What did we expect though? It's 6 days after the Worlds 50k so lots of tired legs. The Norwegians only entered 4 and that 4 was built entirely around Klæbo, so you've got loads of fresh distance specialists with a point to prove vs. everybody else's athletes who either aren't bothering because they haven't got a chance or are competing exhausted because they don't have the same depth to be able to leave these guys fresh. It's in skate so Finland doesn't care, the Russians are banned, the US men are nothing like as competitive as the women, and just about the only non-Norwegians who were actual challengers didn't take the start.

The best non-Norwegian is 3 minutes behind. But what a way for Krueger to hit back at the scandalous selection in the worlds. He shows that his form is still consistent.

Krüger should have walked back after the finish line, waited for Klaebo and pulled a Northug.

Pretty telling how all the other Norwegians gratulated Krüger and Klaebo just skied past him, just like at the end of that Skiathlon.

Hands down one of the biggest sporting farces I've ever seen, and in a race as rich in tradition as Holmenkollen? FIS is a mess, but that's clearly not the only issue on display here. Brutal.

Yup, thought it looked poor enough for Holmenkollen. I'd imagine biathlon crowds will be a lot better there.
