Because he isn't, talent wise, at the moment. If you are talking on paper, fine, I'll grant you that one. Just like Norway's squad tomorrow isn't the best that they can come up with. Just like Nepryaeva Jr, isn't the best woman the Russians have to offer. There's 6-10 skiers that are better than her. Motivation pays a big role. The core of the Russian team from 2022 is hardly 'old,' but with missing so much, they don't have the motivation.
Also, it's a pretty small sample size to nitpick from. Hopefully a better picture will be shown next season.

De Besche is Danish, though - both parents iirc, but born and raised in Norway. Similar to Jacques Jefferies, born and raised in France but both his parents are British.Since we couldn't get Hedegart (yet) we have to be happy for for the Norwegians we can import
Joking aside, this is a huge result for De Besche, and it also made her good friend Tandrevold very excited. Having both a man and a woman qualified for the pursuit is a fantastic achievement for the Danish team.
Lucas Braathen wasn't available to us, but Danish-Austrian Christian Borgnæs finishing 20th in the men's Super G was also quite pleasing.
Btw, congrats to 16(!)-year-old Rihards Lozbers from Latvia, who made it into the pursuit with a very solid 32nd place.

A few years ago in this venue, Émilien Jacquelin was a last lap warrior who outsmarted and beat Johannes Thingnes Bø due to preserving his energy and crushing the last lap.
For the last three years he has consistently raced like a headless chicken and skied like an idiot, wasting all his energy and then collapsing on the last lap. How can he never learn?
Yes, I know Simon Fourcade is involved in the coaching, but frankly, Simon never won a race because he always made that same mistake. Jacquelin was a smarter racer than that, and now he's a stupid racer. What gives?
Mind you, who in heaven's name could have imagined Martin Ponsiluoma of all people being a clutch standing shooter?

Lozbers is really, really good on the skis. He was setting top 3 course times on the IBU Cup earlier this season and probably outgrew the Junior World Cup only to be sent there because Latvia were hosting a round of it. Galica at 18 is really good as well, but he's more rounded whereas Lozbers is somewhat skiing-biased at this point in his career. Though pursuit ski times can be a bit of a misnomer because the different race situations in different parts of the startlist affect it.

Interested in how the US get on here as they're using their strongest skiers on the Classic legs. Hagenbuch looked pretty good in the 10k though, however I think frontloading the team may cost them in the second half of the race. Not sure really who is going to best them though. Most teams here have some notable flaws so the minor medals are really up for grabs.
Think it's stupid that the Britons weren't allowed to bring a fourth athlete for the relay, with Musgrave, Davies and Clugnet all having been pretty good so far.

I think it was gonna be a toss up between Calle and Johan, but Truls getting sick meant it was no option.

Desloges gained time on Hedegart again. Him suddenly becoming the 2nd best skier in the world is a bit funny.
