Mainstream Sports Segment

I stumbled upon this driving home. Nice summary from way outside the usual media sources for cycling news. He hits all the highlights including admitting to being fooled by Armstrong.

Most importantly though, he doesn't use the "bad rider" summary. He recognizes the UCI is broken. UCI's corruption is as obvious as the ocean now. :D

The Wonderboy bit leads his segment, I didn't listen to the rest, probably more U.S. Football/basketball/baseball stuff.

The message is really out there in the U.S. if I'm hearing it in a casual sports segment. Good times!!

I think that many cycling fans must be numb to corruption. Taking a "donation" from a rider is plain evidence of corruption. Keeping that "donation" secret is obviously a corrupt act. All the other stuff that Mr. Ashenden points out is just filthy icing on an already filthy cake.

I'm surprised at your opposition to Mr. LeMond's membership renewal protest. Very surprised. You are one of the most vocal critics of USAC here. I'm interested in hearing your alternatives.

It's Dr. Ashenden. And yes, it matters.

Good article on how social media has become Armstrong's best friend and worst nightmare.

http://www.vancouversun.com/touch/story.html?id=7454877

I thought it was way off the mark.

Social media isn't Lances' worst nightmare. Lance was/is Lances' worst nightmare. Its all his doing. It's his fault it has all "gone south" - the euphemism the author used to to disguise the layer upon layer of sin, guilt and moral bankruptcy Armstrong is responsible for.

Way to completely miss the point of the article.

Where is Lance Armstrong? Not word from the man himself. Advised to keep quiet for legal reasons? Yeah, right!

I can't help myself from peeking at his Facebook page (still 7x-TDF winner by the way) and all I see is a tirade of personal abuse (mixed in with quite a bit of porn). The backlash is staggering and hard(core). Hard to believe it's not been shut down.

Is he monitoring this stuff anymore or just shut away in denial? If he's watching I think this might finally be hitting home now on a very personal level. Or, is he being spoonfed only the good news by his paid cronies? Surely, which one of those is true will determine his next move. He is a criminal but he needs public adulation, and now the two don't fit together.

So what I'm trying to ask is: Are the people paid to protect him actually achieving the opposite and making the ultimate downfall even steeper?

If he is not going to come clean, what can he do? Any uncontrolled contact with a journalist would be a disaster. Controlled events, like the Foundation fundraiser, are all he has left. Those will become more scarce.

Lance's profitmaking Livestrong brand is slowly on the way out. He's going to be living on a fixed income soon, if he isn't already.

Lance is too radioactive right now for his propaganda arm, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, to touch. If they bind themselves too closely to him, they'll suffer his fate. Even Lance has to realize that.

So the big question is why should Lance spend big bucks to rehabilitate himself? What does he gain? Isn't money spent on rehabilitation money down the drain?

I agree that his image management has been a disaster, but unless he starts telling the truth there is nothing he can do.

I think Lance stays quiet and fends off whatever legal action comes his way, and simply fades off into the sunset. I think he admits nothing in the end.

I was reading this last night:

http://www.boston.com/sports/marath...ime-vacated/t3kM0YNfKDCdW69pjxStdL/story.html

According to this article, there was suspicion among runners about his doping at the Boston Marathon in 2008.
His running times were not good enough to win anything, but would be considered good for an amateur runner. He was 497 at Boston, with a time of 2:50:58.

This is something that I am interested in. Is there any information that directly pointed to that he was still on the PED's during those times between his "retirement" and comeback.....marathon running days?

I have not read much of the reasoned decision and do not know if they touch on these facts. I would guess he did juice but I was curious if he focused it for the marathon. I had said his running was horrible even back then, now that it appears or at least some are convinced that he was doping then,,,,,well that makes his performances even more horrible in my opinion.
