So if everyone should have known then what about Lance's buddies who lied for him under oath? Hmmmm, they might have some problems going forward.

It is clear that Lance is intending to fight this with volumes of paperwork. Today's filings alone were over 200 pages. His defense is amazingly insane. He submits as "Proof" that the USPS knew the team was doping multiple articles and emails from 2000 discussing doping and the team. What makes it so insane is all of the emails and articles have Lance, Johan, etc. strongly denying doping and smearing anyone who questioned them.

Lots of crying about leaks.....which is funny as the source for many of the early links was Lance himself. :D He was trying to smear Landis as an extortionist.

He goes after Floyd saying that if Floyd breaches his settlement for fraud then he should not be able to get any money from the Qui Tam......of course there is nothing to support this but his lawyers just figured they would toss it in and see if anyone notices.

Amazing amount of cajones

Given all this, I wouldn't be half surprised to see him ending up trying to call Betsy as a witness for the defense, whereupon they will have her outline all the times and places she told the truth about Lance's doping. Once this recitation is over, they will turn around and ask the USPS how in hell they could have not known. It's YOUR FAULT for not listening to Betsy.

Let me get in touch with the merch director at Andreu Strategies. I think a jersey might be better.

It means: which is a payment everyone accepts was made.

Why they couch it in such bizarre negative language is anyone's case, probably indicative of the underlying mind set. . .

I read "no one contends has not been paid" to mean the opposite, as in no one is contending that it hasn't been paid. ie; no one's saying it has been paid

Ha! That would be brilliant.

The challenge is during the period they are talking about, the USPS sponsorship, Betsy may have talked to one journalist. She did not get really vocal until he went after her full gas, that was mostly after the USPS sponsorship had ended.

No.

It was paid. This fact is not being contended by either party.

The linguistic mangling is all about casting aspersions on USPS/the Government.

Lance alleges that USPS instructed them to pay. The proof of this allegation is that the amount was paid.

Why Lance is playing games is an interesting question. Though it appears rather a flimsy attempt to discredit USPS/the Government.

The obvious and much stronger argument is that even the very rumor of doping, with full court press of denial and sue anyone for anything by Lance, JB, etc., was damaging to the reputation of USPS.

Thus, it is quite possible that Lance's argument is designed to try and discredit the evidence of material concern on the part of USPS.

Dave.

No one's said Wonderboy is intelligent, he's about as dumb as a box of rocks.

Careful...as while he is a lot of things that rank as undesirable, I assure you unintelligent isn't one of them. But of course, being intelligent and being smart are very, very different things...

Sorry, but I disagree. He's astonishingly simple minded.
Stapleton, on the other hand, is intelligent. A truly objectionable waste of DNA and space, but not stupid.
Knaggs--also possesses a light that burns brightly in his noggin.

The trio were doomed to fail. Two smart guys put all of their money on a half-wit horse--half-way to gelding--who cannot be controlled nor counselled, and who has a mouth and ego the size of the state where he was born. Sadly, the half gelding's IQ is more the size of Lichtenstein than Texas.

It's a wonderful tragedy of hubris, greed, incompetence, and overmisunderestimation of the collectivity stupidity of the U.S. Government.

Purely, my assessment.

Love,
Mike

Oh I agree my friend, totally. I just think he's fooling himself if he believes he's the smartest guy in the room...which has been proven time and time again to be false.

Yeah, you're reading it wrong I'm afraid. And if you take 'saying' as a less formal synonym of 'contending' (which it is in this context) what you've written is:

. . . as in no one is saying it hasn't been paid. ie no one's saying it has been paid

I hope you can see why that doesn't make any sense at all.

For example, on a random subject to illustrate the point, I wouldn't contend that Bears don't **** in the woods, because everyone knows that they do.

Wow, I always got the impression that he had more going on upstairs than that, but I'll take your word that it's not true!

Given the conversation about not contending that's a lovely use of redundant double negatives in overmisunderestimation by the way, I might try and start using that.

So true, Mike. Lance is not intelligent, brilliant or smart. He surrounded himself with smart e.g. Stapleton, highly intelligent with no moral compass, the mastermind behind lance. Now that they've left him we see the daft ignorant guy for what he really is - daft and ignorant. The evil and mean which instilled fear in the past is no longer considered such a brilliant tactic mistaken for smarts.

DW, get back to work!

In my former profession there was this kid with crazy talent. Natural talent. But his decision making was exceptionally poor. He was able to do some incredible things but after a while he was exposed... teams and industry folks just didn't want his particular brand of headache.

Once I was watching this kid crush everybody early in a huge race until a dumb crash. Done for the day. I was asking his team staff about his injuries and his wrench said "he's fine. No brain, no pain."

Maybe for Lance it's no more complicated than that.

more evidence that Lance is the work of satan.
"Lance is an atheist, while Travis is a faithful, churchgoing Christian," says Macur, author of the book Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong. "Travis' family is very tight-knit and supportive, while Lance is scarred by alcoholism and divorce."

then to realize that that bit about lance being an atheist is preceded by this:
"Lance is a symbol of all that is wrong in sports and in our society

To be fair, she discusses Floyd's close-knit, strict Menonite upbringing. So she can't be accused of creating a falsely simple "God good / atheist evil" narrative.

LA's lack of moral conduct should not be attributed his use of logic and reason.

What's next? Non-belief used as evidence against someone in non-analytical positive cases?

Go right ahead. It's not mine exactly, but rather a flourish intended to evoke another half-wit from Texas whose position was dependent upon being surrounded by smart people.

I'd love to see the temper tantrum that ensues when Mr Gunderson realises he's been sold down the river.
Or maybe it's already happened. Remember--no honour among thieves.

Technically, Floyd would be Satan. Satan was an angel who fell. Armstrong was never a believer, so he can't 'fall.' But Floyd was once Mennonite boy, so modest he raced in sweats.

So if Mancur is trying to tell a biblical story it's 'There was an angel who fell. Then he hired a lawyer. Now, with the help of the Government, Satan might make millions of dollars. Amen.' A quintesentially American take on the Bible, dotcha think?
