Armstrong still raised enormous amounts of money for cancer research and got a lot of people riding bikes. I don't buy this narrative that he was some super villain, the people that went on to disparage him were complicit and benefited, although not nearly as much and I think that bred a lot of jealously.
I don't think he was unique in how he doped. I do think he was a generational athletic talent.
What he did was of course wrong and he wasn't a nice guy but his horribleness is really overblown. I think he gets a lot of hate from a nationalistic angle. All the doctors that came up with the doping protocols were European, the athletes that pioneered EPO+test+HGH were European and all the drugs came from Europe.
