Was Weisel named as a defendant in the qui tam? I haven't seen the complaint yet.

Yes, but the Government has said they have elected to not go after him, Knaggs, or Stapleton yet. They did say that they could do so at anytime.

It wasn't on the Champs-Elysees, and it's commonly accepted that Ekimov actully spat on Simeoni in the midst of the peloton shortly afterwards same stage once he had been brought back.

There was that incident but Simoni attached on the final stage that year and US Postal went to the front then to chase him down.

At the first kilometre, Filippo Simeoni (Domina Vacanze) tried to spoil Lance's party with an attack, but this time, it was the entire USPS-Berry Floor squad that brought the Italian to heel after an 8km chase that split the peloton in two.

The latest delusion from Dan Empfield of Slowtwitch. He manages to hit the now standard talking point of blaming Leipheimer, Hincapie, and others for Armstrong's bullying.

i predict, the beginning of a slow resurrection for lance. this is going to be a heavily covered case. i think a lot of people are going to wonder why the USPS (or the DOJ on behalf of the USPS), thinks that it alone is worthy to claw back the money paid to an entity that most casual observers are going to see fulfilled its end of the bargain, and that delivered back to the USPS multiples of what was paid to it, by the USPS' own estimates.

for those who are REALLY interested in anti-doping instead of just having every possible bad thing happen to lance irrespective of whether he actually deserves it, i don't see how making lance a sympathetic figure serves your purpose. rather, in 6 months, if lance is the object of popular sympathy because people do consider lance scapegoated through this case, and if people start to wonder how come levi, george, et al, are back racing even tho they spectated everything lance did, knew it all, and said not one word in aid to betsy andreu, emma o'reilly, et al, then i don't know how this serves the purpose.

otoh, it seems to me that the very best way to get ALL the questions answered is to remove the over-the-top legal threats of jail time, hundreds of millions in claw backs, etc. you don't need to give lance the same racing privileges enjoyed by his cowardly ex teammates. rather, just stop the over-charging. i think this is a case of lance-hatred so overarching it clouds the actual fight against doping.

I agree i am sure it was in the final stage.

Funny. (From the link)

Discussing the process of this year's Tour, Armstrong noted that, "We never had a sense of crisis, only the stress of the rain and the crashes in the first week," he said. "I was never able to ride away alone on the climbs. That's the first time I didn't do that, but I was surprised that some of the rivals were not better. Some of them just completely disappeared."

Disappeared?

Hein can make that happen.

This guy is unreal. Every time I read one of his posts, I feel like I am getting stupider. You have your opinion fine, but don't go Simple Jack on us.

Aw shucks you are right. My memory couldn't believe that Armstrong was actually pulling the Omerta-in-plain-sight crap with Simeoni on not one, but two different stages.

I'll never forget that race. Armstrong's behavior was awful, and the whole effing peloton supported him . . ..

I don't know when Eki supposedly spat on Simeoni but it was on the 18th stage of the 2004 Tour when LA chased him down (solo) to have him evicted from the break-away, then made the infamous lip-zipping gesture. It wasn't on the final stage.

Stage 18 - July 23: Annemasse - Lons le Saunier, 166.5 km
"Earlier in the day, a strange incident that will certainly go down in the annals of Tour de France history enlivened Stage 18, when Domina Vacanze rider Filippo Simeoni bridged across to the day's winning break on the first climb of the day after 32km. Suddenly, surprisingly, maillot jaune Lance Armstrong went in pursuit of Simeoni and soon both riders had bridged across to the break together...."

Something like that could never occur on a final mass start stage into Paris because the race by tradition is neutralised until the first lap of the city is begun to allow the MJ to be the first rider to enter Paris (the Tour's salute to the Parisians).

That has never been proven. A malicious allegation by a hater. Armstrong was the fourth best in that race, no doubt about it.

Are you sure that FINA didn't test Lance 189 times at that race to make him the most tested teenager ever? Besides, didn't Hein run FINA before creating the UCI?

Dave.

So maybe I was right after all?
