The bits about Bassons and Simeoni put a wry smile to my face.

Riccardo Ricco has perpetrated a despicable and egregious fraud against his teammates his sponsor the TDF but, most importantly, the fans.

I was not comparing the two, not sure you you came to that conclusion. The point was his lobbying efforts had little effect on some.

One hardly can expect Liggett, Sherwin or Roll to have any objectivity where Pharmstrong is concerned because his doping success manifestly increased their net worths. Pro cycling recieved only vestigial coverage in America until the Outdoor Life Network bought exclusive USA rights to the 1999 Tour de France. The same broadcast deal that made Phamstrong a household name (and a celebrated native son) also made Phil, Paul and Bob their faces and voices of the TdF. And upgraded them from flying Coach right up into First Class.Race Radio said:Bob Roll, spewing the talking points

Good thing we have RR to listen in on Bush's private comments. Have anything he said about the phony WMDs?

The TdF bears a most conspicuous -- and appropriate -- scar from 1999 to 2005. And cycling must never forget.

What Roll fails to appreciate in the linked video (or perhaps appreciates but refuses to admit) is that pro cycling already is reconciled with the Pharmstrong era. It pronounced him a persona nongrata. Done and done.
