Overall

Prob. not in Contador's interests to win overall, re dig too deep and show too many cards before Tour, but guess he'd wants to win a stage.

Curious how he "doses" (sorry, couldn't resist a gratuitous dig in general) his effort this TT (re given how well in he did in the short TT at Paris-Nice). Prob. would be mistake to go for TT win, IF he can. Then has jersey to defend.

Guess Valverde has the most to prove this Dauphine. Curious to see how Martin* (Garmin) does. Getting better. Also no one is talking about Kolobnev (Saxo).

*I see in his latest column in ProCycling, Martin says he pulled 420watts for 5mins in an Ardennes classic hill, think maybe Liege, maybe the hill before the one Schleck took off on (I can't remember).

Yeah! We have Duffers back!:D
If only ES would get rid of Harmon, Kelly and Duffers are the dream team of cycling commentary.
Rosseler with the best time at the moment. Vladimir Efimkin came in +28 secs. Hope that's not a sign of his climbing form. I had him down for a top 10 in the GC.

Evans and Contador are looking good so far. Gonna be an interesting taste for the tour. Evsns looks like he's ready to fight.

Evans looked awesome! He did say that Dauphine was a pretty good clue as to how he'll perform at the Tour. 2nd twice in a row. Guess he wants to win it this time round.
Vavlverde just caught and passed Devolder:eek:23 secs down on Cadel

Evans does look really strong. Maybe Giro inspired him to get to work :). Menchov is scarey.

And looks like Contador really went for it (no holding back): always standing on pedals out of corners, and given his effort on final straight.

Score 1 for Evans: he has to beat AC solidly in TT's if is to have a hope in Tour.

Devolder must be steamed to be passed by Valverde. :D

That is ridiculous. Evans just destroyed the field. 32 seconds from Rosseler's time, oh boy...

Evans actually looked a little pudgy.
Obviously, training is far more productive, than riding say, The Giro.
A massive difference in the times, with Basso.
At that rate, the Tour will average 50kph.

Interesting to see that another Aussie is refusing to sign his team's new anti-doping contract.

I wondered about that, too. Maybe new bodysuit, or whatever, or picture illusions, etc.. Puzzling, but then there was a hill in this TT, so if he were that pudgy, he wouldn't be able to drag himself over it, LOL.

But, look, the Giro didn't help Basso much, at least in short TTs! Surprised he was so weak, but maybe it's so short--or the Giro so long. I dunno.

Will see on the climbs....

Looking at his palmares, one could say that Basso was never a threat in short TTs-however, the fact that he lost over a minute in a prologue that featured a climb (not that serious, of course) in which he should excel (theoretically, at least) is quite surprising.

As for Evans' look, maybe it is just a picture illusion, he always looks like this with that helmet and team's kit. IMHO, obviously.

No surprises?
Maybe not about the Top 3 guys but have you had any look at the times?
Evans and Contator destroyed the rest!

over that short distance evens technically destroyed contador as well..

im not usually cycnical but when he initially crossed the line and took over 30 seconds off the gap between my eyes and my eyebrows increased...

now all i can say, is where the hell did that come from..

Great to see Contador beaten by Evans, if it was the other way around already after this prolouge we'd be saying the tour is already decided.

I think that type of time-trial was well suited to the way Evans rides in them, but I was shocked to see so many t-t specialists end up so far back from him, Rosseler at 33 seconds, Millar and Gutierrez at 36 seconds, and Clement at 39 seconds.

Could be that Evans and Contador are peaking right now and we may see them just ride away from everyone in the mountains here. Another surprise was Devolder's performance, not only in getting caught by Valverde but by then sitting up in the last 200 metres as if to say "I have had enough!", now i'm not sure if he fell, had a mechanical or both but that is shocking for someone of his calibre.

Hmm, maybe its just because cadels a more of a TT rider then basso, and basso would typically climb better (maybe not now). also you probably wouldn't know, but from what i gather riding a three week stage race would take some considerable getting over. those who have been training will have less race endurance, but will start harder. this will come through towards the end of the race.
evans looking pudgy? i disagree. He never looks as thin as someone like rasmussen, and unless you were really there in the team bus it would be difficult to know what he really looks from the few photos which you see. have some faith people.

Great effort by Millar! Put your haed down and TT those last 4k!

oh no... what a shame. A couple of meters short, Boonen caught him and Furlan won because he went over Boonen, who had to start sprinting from too far... What a horrible organisation of the chase and the Boonen train.
