Teams & Riders Official Wout Van Aert thread

Right, but I mean who gives a sh*t? It's an intermediate sprint worth zippo.

But it's good for entertainment value, for sure. Now it's apparently a "thing" so WvA's rivals might have found a way to niggle him.

So all is fair in love, war & intermediate sprints in the TdF.

I don't think even WVA cares, he just thought it was rather pathetic (which it was). It's not like he needs any more points or anything.

I thought the unwritten 'rule' also involved the rider taking the points doing some of the work beforehand? WvA just sat at the back & then moved to the front to casually scoop-up the money I mean points.

Yeah, but that's the funny thing about unwritten rules, when they collide, who's right? Probably the one with the higher profile and the bigger megaphone.

Remember the drama about "chaingate" or Cancellara appointing himself patron. ;)

Van Aert behaving the new patron of breakaways.
Also this is an impressive three week peak especially with a dodgy knee.

It's a good thing Wout had that "knee injury" before Nationals....otherwise he may have messed up this great peak at the Tour.

Green jersey and Tour de France stage wins are waaaaaaaaay more important to the team, fans and sponsors than being the Belgium national champion.

If he is mad at Eekhoff for that, jesus, what a drama queen. Green is over since week one, if he's in the break to win intermediate sprints, I'm not gonna even pronounce about that. Focus on winning stages if he's working for himself, or focus on team's goals with Vingo.

Who the hell cares about the 1st rider to pass the intermediate sprint in Baguette-sur-Seine on stage 942 to Brie-en-Croissant, ffs.
It doesn't sound like he was really all that upset about it, just wished that he would have know it was going to actually be a sprint. He probably wouldn't have minded if the wheel sucker(s) took at least a token pull too.

He certainly doesn't need to care but, after pulling all of these faint hearted farts around one of them decides to jump the last meter to the line for their ego? It always pissed me off when it happened but then, I was dealing with type A personality Masters amateurs that want to impress their family. Wout is just tired and grumpy and justified in being irritated. And someone has a picture of them "beating" Wout.

Probably the best rider in the world.
Probably? There is no contest.

This TDF he first defeats the best TT artist in the world (but somehow Lampaert beats him on a +10 day).
Then he contests the sprints with 3 of the fastest sprinters of the world, narrowly losing out (Jakobsen, Groenewegen, later Philipsen).
Meanwhile going into the break every possible hilly and mountain stage.
And today he was in the attack from km 0, but still having the strength to help Vingegaard on the final climb and actually drop Pogacar, the 2 time TDF winner.

It's literally unheard of, impossible, it only lives in a fantasy world like Pro Cycling Manager. But Wout does it all. There is nobody close.
Sure, a specialist sprinter can beat him in a mass sprint
A specialist classic guru can beat him in a classic (think vdp, alaph)
A specialist TT god can beat him in a TT
And a specialist climber beats him in a mountain stage.

But nobody comes even close to combining them all the way he does. And then the stamina. How can you go on attack for 3 straight weeks?? And still have energy to do what he did today??? I thought VDP's Giro was impressive the way he kept attacking but this is totally doing tripple that.

Utterly insane. I have no other words.

Please, the guy is a lone MSR winner...
