I'm wondering if he might now target KOTM.

The way the points are structured he could get it by going in breaks and picking up points on the multiple early climbs.

Would be a pretty cool addition to his palmares.
I think it looks like he is targeting KoM. He is already equal on points with Yates. Of cause it might start looking like Rogla is going to win quite a few of the remaining MTFs, so could be a tough ask of Wut.

WVA isn't going to ride the WC ITT. A bit weird if you ask me, perfect opportunity to go for the win this year with only Remco as his biggest competitor. He wants to go for the win in the RR, which is a bit delusional imo, but he can try.

If you are good at knowing your own limitations you'll never become a pro bike rider.

I am so sorry I am not excited aboyt a guy not even being challenged for a Cat 1 when the peloton is about 60 guys.

Van Aert winning KoM isnt some insane achievement that moves the needle for him. Its pintless trivia to cope when he gets dropped at the WC, all the while its also showing how poor the KoM battle has been
I would think it’s the team making these decisions (to go for KOM) not Wout—they can say to their sponsors, “okay no GT wins this year but look at these shiny things.”

It's also just fun. It's a nice collector's item. You're right, it doesn't move the needle for him, it just demonstrates his versatility in grand tours (which we knew of already, but also he hadn't shown this type of climbing form for a while). It's not a cope, either, as nobody really expects him to win the WC.
