Top 5 10,000m times ever..

Look at all the PBs - https://www.rio2016.com/en/athletics-womens-10-000m

If it turns out the track is the wrong length at the premier athletics event in the world then that's just as farcical as doping en masse.. (not that they are mutually exclusive)

It has to be, there is no other logical explanation. The question is how the cheerleading media will report on this or if this is going to be another cover up in order not to embarrass anyone.

Tactics also come into play. A lot of olympic distance races have people looking at each other for the first mile.

That women's 10,000m final

1 World Record
1 Area Record
8 National Records
18 Personal Bests

#Olympics, eh?

I don't think we'll see a WR in the men's 10000m, unless Bekele suddenly shows up and decides to tear it up with his fellow Ethiopians, Kenyans, and of course, the greatest of the great, Mo. Though it would be awesome to see an equally ridiculous WR in that race. If it's 14 or 15 seconds faster than Bekele's record, it would be seconds from breaking the 26 minute barrier.

This is the only thing I have seen from the Western press that actually looks at her cases in any detail instead of just vaguely referring to a positive test for steroids, and not going into particular details on the meldonium ruling.. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/olympics/in-villifying-russian-swimmer-yulia-efimova-americans-are-splashing-murky-waters/2016/08/10/0ccdba8a-5eef-11e6-8e45-477372e89d78_story.html

One of the more ridiculous things I've seen recently in sports.

Is Rio more lax/the new gear that undetectable that everyone is going balls to the wall? Seems to be a lot more doping talk this Olympics than I can remember from the last 3-4.

Anybody post this yet? Two Polish weightlifters (brothers) positive https://www.yahoo.com/news/polish-olympic-champ-weightlifter-fails-dope-test-brother-152221173--oly.html?ref=gs

How is weightlifting even in the Olympics at this point..

On which note:

Because of the doping situation in the sport, fourth-place finisher Mercedes Isabel Perez of Colombia said she might yet win a medal. “We have to wait for the doping tests,” Perez said, chuckling. “Who knows? Being fourth is the best because if something happens, I’ll just climb on that podium.”

Nice read and at least it looks a little bit at Efimova's perspective. I haven't seen the comments yet, I am assuming it's mostly critical of Efimova and the rest of the Russians. Such is the weather in world sport/politics these days. Though when I did see that it was Sally Jenkins who wrote the article, it immediately brought me back to Lance Armstrong's "It's not about the bike." She also covered Armstrong for a number of years back in the day, if I am not mistaken. Not sure how it shapes her opinion on doping in sports post-Lance, but it's interesting that she would write a less-scathing article than what we've been used to so far at the Olympics.

They're using some primitive old school stuff.

More accurately, perhaps, they're getting caught for some old-school stuff. That's the stuff there's tests for, and it's the stuff being used by athletes who fail the proverbial IQ test.

All the top 13 in the 10k for women set a PB. Average improvement - top 5: 47.6 seconds and top 13: 35.8 seconds.
