The Australian - USA swimming union that they are clean and beating those dirty Chinese and Russians is going very strong. Lilly King on Australian television celebrating her and Mack Horton's wins as wins for the good guys.

I am at work today, so I didn't get to watch the swimming...but I think my TV would be broken if I had seen it live. I really would have thrown something through it. I think I should stop watching altogether is just makes my blood boil...Not one of those athletes is clean, Who the hell do they think they are fooling?, oh that's right Jo Public who only watches the swimming every 4 years....
As the hypocrisy has reached the next level.....for fun we could award the Gold,Silver and Bronze medals of hypocrisy for the Aussie and American swimmers(will include any other nation that throws in a I am clean comment), most outrageous claim wins gold!

I always felt that the Aussies were (in all honesty) one of the good guys. Not because of doping or no doping, but because they always had right go at the Americans, on and off the pool, whenever they got the chance. I remember when Gary Hall Jr was being an idiot, saying and doing stupid things, and then the Aussies just beat them by a hair in one of the relays (I believe it was 2000, or perhaps 2004) and then proceeded to mock Hall and the other Americans by playing the 'air guitar.'
That was before the Chinese really took off in Swimming. The Russians were never as deep as the Americans or Aussies, but they always had some talented swimmers. Alex Popov comes to mind. The Ian Thorpe before Ian Thorpe! In the post Soviet era, even during the Soviet Era, it was the Americans that were the ones with the bigger team and better results. The Aussies were always good as well, but their women here are just big, strong, physically dominating presence. The Americans have their own 'specimens' in Franklin, Ledecky, King, etc.
To your main point, I too am fed up with the hypocrisy. I am not shocked, it's been brewing for a while. I think this has a lot to do with politics and it unfortunately trickles down to sports. To hear Efimova being booed isn't nice, I don't care what anyone thinks of her. I am not a fan of Froome's, for example, but I found it rather sad that he was booed so often out on the roads of France and especially at the podium. However, the hypocrisy towards the Chinese and Russians is just....well...you chuckle and shake your head in disbelief. I don't get it. Efimova lives and trains in the US. She has an American coach (a guy that's trained dozens of Olympic and World medalists), obviously is tested a lot and WADA felt that the Meldonium PED wasn't clear, and they reinstated her. I mean, if they re-instated a Russian, of all people, they must have had no doubts about it. You can debate the previous drug ban. That's fine. It's unfortunate, but it's a part of sport. My biggest beef is the hypocrisy and double standards that's set for the Americans and joe foreigner, particularly someone that threatens American medals, like Efimova (who, even had she not failed the tests, and was never accused or never associated with anyone suspicious, would still be scrutinized just because she's Russian-a perfect example of guilt by association). If you google her you'll see numerous negative articles on her. You'll see tweets that really make you sick to your stomach. Sorry Gooner, but I'll have to include Lance in this quote again, he never got this sort of scrutiny from the American or indeed any press that I remember reading, during his domination, after his retirement, during his second comeback 2008-2010 and even after his Oprah interview and the revelations of systematic doping within the USPS and the UCI being complicit.
I know opinions will come forward when a previously suspended athlete makes it this far and actually wins a medal, but the idea of the person or sometimes persons beating that individual, in this case King, who by the way won by half a second and in Olympic record time, was clean when they did it is just not possible. Again, you'll have to excuse my cynicism (again), but King is either doped as well, OR she has to be be the greatest female talent that's ever swam. Is that an overreaction? No, but look at the Seoul 100m. Johnson get's Dq'd just two or three days after he wins that race in dominating fashion. Fine, he was doped (though it's funny that they actually didn't catch him for the right drug, somehow, according to an interview he had with CBC a couple years ago, 25 years after the race), he was caught and DQ'd. Standard procedure. But what about Lewis? He failed several tests just that summer, weeks before the games. Nothing ever happened. This didn't come out until AFTER Lewis had been retired for a number of years. The USOC covered up his, and hundred others' tests and let them all compete. At least half of them ended up winning medals at Seoul and into the late 90's, early 2000's. Not the same athlets, of course, but same procedure done by the USOC. Nothing was done. There were the odd catches and dq's, but nothing that we all want to see the Russians pay for. No fines, no bans, no sanctions, no moving of venues (Atlanta 96, golden league events, etc) and Lewis got to keep all of his records and medals of course. Yet to this day, he still calls Johnson 'butthurt' and that 'johnson wants to say that everyone else doped, because he was the one caught.' Well, 6 of those finalists were at one point or another embroiled in PED scandals. Johnson has every right to feel upset and the right to feel as a scapegoat. Same thing with King and Efimova. I understand that Efimova didn't just disappear, like Johnson did (more or less) after their bans, but according to the WADA rules, she served her suspension and is back competing. Does it make you wonder? Of course it does, she's still able to compete at a high level and winning medals at the Olympics. So, is King really that good that she can beat known dopers? And should she and the media that help fuel the barrage of Russophobia cool their jets a little? I mean, at this high level, a talented swimmer who trains A TON, dopes, loses to someone else who is....clean?
Yes, I am throwing a blanket of sorts. I think it's fair to do that. The media has the power to do whatever it wants and it clearly influences the reaction of its audience. Instead of reporting on the actual races and the results, they resort to exceptionalism and the nauseating 'good vs evil,' stories. If it's not the Russians, it's the Chinese...it could be someone else tomorrow. I guess if it sells and people by it without question, then job well done. Goal accomplished.

I'm definitely not naive enough to believe that (huge Sky skeptic amongst other things). I do think things have improved considerably since the Armstrong investigation and the upholding of the Contador suspension. I suspect there is much more work left to be done.
What I intended by referencing those range of years was that the state of swimming reminds me of some of the worst periods of doping for cycling. It is getting laughable watching all the world and Olympic record times roll in.

What bothered me was in the U.S. coverage King was being portrayed as a hero for standing up for clean athletes. Nobody seems to be talking about the elephant in the room that with all these swimmers doping, yet the U.S. team is absolutely dominating everyone while allegedly being clean. This feels like Lance Armstrong all over again (or the Johnson/Lewis BullsFan posted about above), it wasn't credible then and it is likely not credible now.

Always amusing when other athletes vehemently call out past dopers (or Russians), as if there was persuasive evidence they're clean themselves.
Well, how the clinic has declined. After years and years of bemoaning omerta and the reluctance of other athletes to speak out.
Now all of a sudden there's a deluge of athletes ripping into dopers. Not just US and Aus but this French guy Lacourt went absolutely ballistic "Sun Yang, he pisses purple," LOL
So do the clinic posters welcome this new openness. No. This thread is enfeebled as apologists attack the messenger as either hypocritical or being too harsh on undeserving dopers. Meldonium not so bad - what a crock.
Really it seems like the LAF interns have been replaced by their Russian and Chinese counterparts.
