http://www.twitter.com/wegelius I don't want to hear about Boonen miss timing his sprint. Sep was stronger. It was him that split the group and got it down to 3.

well said Charlie
Boonen would have won the sprint from Vanmarcke's position. Does it matter? No.

I must admit, when they called it the Barcelona of cycling on Belgian tv, I was kinda hoping they would fail today, and they certainly did that. Hushovd just wasn't strong enough, but their tactic was even worse.

Anyway, great race, with an even greater winner. Something must go horribly wrong for that guy not to end up with a couple of really big classic wins in his carreer.
They weren't that great in most of the cobbled races last year, now they have added Gilbert, but he wasn't great either.

If it weren't for snooker and tennis...

The further you get from the heart of the cycling the worse it gets....Eurosport makes NBC Sports look good. No $$$ in the production.

there are no confirmed wins for BMC in the cobbled classics. There are in the hilly classics;)

Only a brave one will dare bet against a gilbert victory in one of the hilly classics.

I love Flecha's enthousiasm about his third place, awesome guy!

Flecha is a hero. Last year when Langeveld beat him by 2cm and they asked him if he was dissapointed he answered with why he should be dissapointed he got 2nd and he had a very good time.

Big fan of him.

Garmins team leader van Lanke (I think) said during the race that he believed that vanmarcke could beat Boonen in the sprint.

Just heard that Boom said that there's only one man to blame he fell and that was Lars Boom himself. It was pretty obvious but it's still good to hear him say that. Most of them would've looked for an excuse.

Oeps kutzooi! Dat ging dus niet! Gelukkig val ik alleen en neem ik geen collega's mee! De benen voelde goed!!!

Oops, sh*t. That didn't work out. Luckily I'm the only one that fell and I took no other riders with me. Legs felt good!

I guess Boonen was overconfident going that early. Great win by Sep, strong dude!

I think he was just cooked by Vanmarcke attacking the group everytime reaching the cobbles -> fair win, congrats.

Actually my first thought was the eminence grise handing the young prince a win.

Me too. Especially with the hand shaking just after they rolled over the line. Boonen knows he needs friends against Canc

If Breschel didn't crash out in the Vuelta he wouldn't have been dropped in my opinion. Wouldn't have won that beastly sprint against Vanmarcke though. Always knew he had enormous potential, but didn't expect him to beat Boonen. I knew he was the best man in the race though when he went on the Lange Munte.

Seems Boonen likes to lose sprints out of small groups

Gilbert, Pozzato twice, nearly Cancellara in E3 Prijs 2007, etc

One thing is for sure: every year there's a new Belgian breakthrough classics rider. How do they do it? Okay, they're crazy about cycling... but all we have is Langeveld, and that's pretty much it. Frustrating stuff :p

It's really not that hard to figure out. Cycling is really popular in Belgium, and in the youth-categories riders are mostly selected on how good they ride on cobbles. Add a home-crowd advantage to that, and you have a recipe for succes (but I'm sure you know that ;)).

There was only one Belgian in the top 10 last year and the year before :p

That said, the real work still has to begin and it's too early to already peak and perhaps Vanmarcke already reached that peak. But to win the Omloop as your first professional victory is something special.

Anyway, let's move on to Strade Bianche and the start of Phil domination :D

I know, but it's still frustrating :)

Okay, I guess it's even worse if you're a cycling fan from, say, the US.

5 Sky riders in Top 30 v 2 from OPQS v 1 from BMC. Shows the team's Classics strength already :) Sky will be strong, but they don't have kind of favourite as OPQS ( Boonen ), but if they play it out at PR or Ronde they have lots of cards to play for.

Most of the guys from OPQS crashed out, hardly a fair comparison. What matters is that they had 2 guys in the final, just like Sky.
