I wonder how many of us had all three of Vanmarcke, Boonen and Haussler. All hugely popular and obvious picks.

edit: wait, I don't have Haussler. When did I drop him? Gah.

Well, I dont know too much about the guy, but I know he really caught my eye last year in doing really strong turns in the classics last year as a domestique endlessly being on the front of the bunch on all the difficult sections, great to see him get to go for his own chanches now

He was a very good classics rider in the U23 but his first "big" performance was a very classy ride in the decisive move in the Gent Wevelgem edition that Eisel won.

To add a bit more to the fact that people have noticed him before, he had a podium from the break in Gent-Wevelgem 2 years ago for Topsport Vlaanderen (in what I believe was his neo-pro season), and even with the deep Garmin lineup for the classics last year, he looked like a monster on the cobbles, often stretching things fairly early and getting a good gap even. Over 2 years (and different parts of the season, as he did a good attack or two in the Eneco Tour last summer), it was pretty obvious that it wasn't fluke form and it was just a matter of time before the big breakthrough. That's mostly what I have noticed...

Dunno if he has 260km in his legs, but I hope so.
Yes he does. Did you watch Paris-Roubaix last year? Kilometres on the front for Hushovd. Vanmarcke is a class act, and he seems to have made that step forward.

lol that was a pretty cheap way to get a result on the board BMC:eek:

It's the same as Radioshack sending Zubeldia to attack with 1km to go in San Sebastián 2010, a minute after the leaders had sprinted out the victory. Besides, if they hadn't managed to get anybody in the top 10, it would have been hilarious, yes, but very bad for such an on-paper dream team.

someone translate what GVA is saying!!

He said BMC ****ed up, whoever thought throwing all the best riders available into one team and hoping it would all work out was wrong.

Why? Thor is not on good form. BMC looked strong in the chase with wrong guy up the road. Just one race, but the director messed that up.

Yup, it's all about the combo of riders. Sure almost 80 teams have Boonen and 50 or so have the other 2 each, but if 25 teams have all 3, you're getting a leg up on 100 teams if you have them all. Obvious picks aren't as cool, but they get the job done.

42 teams have Haussler, so it'll be less than a third of all teams at the very most who have all three.

I have all 3 in my podium cafe team.
Seemed like obvious picks.

/Well, I doubted a little about Haussler for 8 points.

5 * for Sep tactically. I don't think he could have then much more. Then he won an unexpected sprint. Deserved. What a great race and a great finale. Made me jump from my chair and shout like a maniac :D

Thanks for info on Vanmarcke. I never noticed him before, though I obviously should have. He rode great today, I think I'll become a big fan of his :)

Yeah, for sure, I noticed him in P-R, but working on the front is different than saving enough to drop everyone or sprint out the win after 260km. I agree about his potential, but I'm just saying he hasn't been in that position yet enough (ie. at all) for me to see him as a 'favourite' for those races. Sprinting out the win strongly after 200k + working hard for your leaders deep into a full-length classic does not always equal being able to put it all together.
