As is thread shows, predicting a winner of is race is pretty hard because I always suspect that the big guns (Gilbert, Boonen, Hushovd, etc) are holding something back for a few weeks.

I, like many others, think Stannard has a real chance this weekend. His form is looking very good, helped no doubt by the Vuelta last season (he didn't ride a GT the year before). To be honest, he needs the chance and the to take it when it comes because he's been an up and coming classics rider for some time now. The time has come to really show it.

It'll be great to finally end the hype and see who performs the best. The hype surrounding the classics squads of BMC, Sky and OPQS has been huge.

If I was to put some hard earned money on it, I'll go for a Sky rider. Flecha (although I think he's trying to peak later this year), Stannard, Hayman, EBH and Eisel are some cards to play.

KBK 2010 was funny. I felt a bit sorry for Stannard. Bobbie and Flens were clearly stronger than Ian, in the final kms they were constantly dropping Stannard but then, as they couldn't drop one another, they let Ian come back to drop him again and of course let come back again and so on until the finish line. Harrowing story

Seems like there's some sort of curse on him when it comes to classics. Might as well write him off for the rest of the classic season as well cause he sure as hell will pick up some other diseases or injuries to keep him away from them.

TBH he can win classics when he's a 35 year old veteran. I don't feel that all this searching for the next prospect is appropriate for the classics. No biggie.

The teams apply for an invite. The organiser decides who gets an invite. Maximum of 50% World Tour teams.

thx. they are still ProTour teams though aren't they? participating in the World Tour i just love this chaos! so strange compared to the NBA and NFL where there are clearcut rules for just about everything

World tour is what was formerly pro tour. The teams (18 of them) however, are referred to as Proteams.
