He'll have to be careful and not end up looking more like Robbie Coltrane.

It was inevitable, but some posters would prefer riders racing for others to lose, I respect that they take their shot. If not, other posters (or maybe some of the same) would yell "wheelsuckers" instead.
Bingo. Better to lose vs a stronger opponent while trying to win thats the only way you give yourself best probaility anyway to win. But dont mind those people cry regardless. Nice and strong of van dijk and Vermeersch.

The other option is everyone doing a Van Aert and DNS the second MvdP declares he will start, thats the other option

You know full well that they would have been caught by now had half the peloton not crashed on the way to Muur.
And what would their respective chances be if they hadn't worked with Van Der Poel? I get that it's boring to always have the same riders win, but I find it odd that people blame the front riders for making the race, while also blaming the guys in the peloton who does the opposite. I'm sure both Red Bull and UAE would have sold this for a podim spot before the race.

Red Bull had the numbers behind to win with a late attack like Tratnik in 2024. UAE had Politt for the same scenario.

He doesn't have good results in cobbled classics. Vermeersh or even Pollit, who won this race and was second in Roubaix, are better suited for them.
Politt only finished Second here two years ago, but on paper, Wellens is at least the best uphill of those years, especially Politt doesn‘t have the punch to follow the best on the hills and always needs to hope to find the right Moment on the flat.

He has podiumed this race before.

Thanks. I didn't remember that. But Politt has better results in these kinds of races.I think Wellens is a bit overrated as a rider for these types of races. He's good, but I would never put him among the favorites to win.
And in Monuments like Flanders and Roubaix he usually performs worse.
