But here he really seemed to struggle. I dunno, I heard the heat was a factor, but still... I wonder if his efforts prior to oman (training harder then usual in pre-season) are effecting him now.
I've also heard comments that he is in training mode, for the ardennes, but who knows. that is to be seen in a week or two.

First time I followed the Tour of Basque just like pretty much all of the races pre-May with the exception of the monuments and I must say this is a fantastic stage race.
Just like T-A it was very entertaining with a lot of great riders showing their skill. Besides that there were huge crowds. The basques are great cycling fans so they most certainly deserve a prestigious stage race like this.

just... wow... for Gesink I mean... dude He seriously improved his TT in the winter... but IMPROVED IMPROVED... Now Andrew should be scared... now I will pray for him every day to not have any crash or injury!!!

The region is only really big enough for 6 stages unless they make detours into Navarre or La Rioja, but I would really love to see a stage through the French Basque country one time, using some climbs like Uzkalepoa (4,4km @ 8,3%), Col d'Irey (7,8km @ 7,4%) or even, if weather permitted, something like Errozate or Larrau, but those are probably too much for a short Tour without increasing the ITT distance to change the balance.
His improvement in the TT is mainly due to a new position and the fact that he turns a bigger gear than he did before. The less than fantastic climbing is a result of not being on top form.Spine Concept said:
