Saxo's supposed GC man, Navarro, crashed today according to CN live ticker. No idea how seriously, but obviously wasn't in lead group.

edit - Navarro came in 2.29 in Mollema group

navarro was in the lead group according to team-saxobank.com when the crash happened.

So was Dennis van Winden before he crashed. So in the end Rabobank did have a guy there, and then he crashes out. How typical

With a name like that there would have been no excuse for being caught out today!

Taaramae has updated his blog. Says he just had a bad day. Reckons that he was up with the leaders but couldnt hang on and then just kept dropping back through the groups. Well thats if google translate is correct.

http://blog.paf.com/ratta-rambo/

Says it was Garmin who started the forcing of the pace.

What did Leipheimer say that people were laughing about earlier?

It wasn't really what he said, which was reasonable enough. He said that he was primarily concerned in the early stages with not losing time, that hopefully the team would have two GC cards to play, but that if it comes down to it Tony Martin will be the main leader.

We were laughing at Kelly's comments afterwards. He said something to the effect that Levi would able to give the same interview before any race about riding not to lose time as his tactic is to gain time in the TT and then defend. He also said that the stuff about Martin being the leader was just a sensible way to deflect a bit of pressure and attention.

It's worth saying though, that Kelly didn't seem to mean any of that as a criticism, just as a straightforward comment about tactics. He always gives the impression that he thinks more highly of riders who maximise their chance of winning than riders who favour attacking when it isn't the rational thing to do.

Doesnt explain why they left it so so late to chase it though

typical rabobank, they have the tactical sense of a chimp.

didnt see the stage but I read wiggo was pretty strong on the front.
him saying he has the form of his life is like the norm now tho. but he looks pretty good.

Sounds like Wiggo is in some incredible shape! Is that kind of weird for him to be so strong this early in the season?? Is he gunning for something besides le Tour? I guess if he fails horribly in July he can console his sponsor a little bit with a Paris Nice overall win??

I just finished watching the stage, had it recorded. Was expecting a boring sprint stage and WOW what a great stage :) Chapeau Boonen! He looked strong throughout.

Hummm well Wiggo in yellow, I hope Valverde can do something to change that but must say Wiggo looks strong. Geez he won at the sprint point!!!

Green Bullet for the win tomorrow though.

Hope TJVG manages to podium also, that would be cool.

Great stage. Boonen is at the best form I've seen in a long time. Big work from his team. Omega Pharma/Quickstep the best team of the moment, but the dark horse I going with is Valverde. Some of these uphill finishes favor his style and he could take time a enough time to gain the yellow. The uphill ITT certainly does not hurt him as well, but take you pick.

Not sure what's happening in the Netherlands, but they actually showed a short 30 second summary of the stage on the morning News on the public channels.
I wonder if they showed it on the primetime news as well yesterday evening?

I've never seen that happening besides the TDF or if a dutch guy wins a stage in the Giro or something.
Could any dutch person tell me if this is new or I was just never aware of it?

Everyone likes a Rabo fail.

lol it's true though.
AD Sportwereld article about Paris - Nice today headlines "Rabobank fails hard" and the complete article is about how Rabobank failed.
While for example Vacansoleil lost the yellow jersey.

Rabobank really needs to get out of this negativity though.

The Dutch media want to have their cake and eat it: on the one hand they push for Dutch leaders like Mollema, and when he doesn't make the front split the DSes get the blame. What do they think, suddenly Mollema is an echelon specialist?

De Telegraaf headlines with "Rabobank staat voor schut".

It's so easy. Allthough I agree with the DSes that the riders failed. Since sundayevening they have been telling the entire team where it will happen. It happened there and only van Winder was in the first group. Not Mollema, Lulu or Renshaw. The 3 that had to be there atleast.
Mollema said he was in 5th position when they took the corner onto the road where wind came from the side, but nothing happened right away. It happened 1k later when he lost a lot of positions.

I'm sure all teams knew where it would happen so keeping your position upfront was probably hard.

Vacansoleil had a guy on the winning move and they won the prologue yesterday. Obviously they didn't fail even if they lost the yellow jersey.

Definately, but the yellow jersey wasn't even close to the front. It's not even being mentioned.
Let's be honest. Vacans are allowed to **** up a lot more compared to Rabo :)

Slightly lower budget may be relevant :).
