Likelyhood of pulling back such a gap is low, but riders like Contador or Bardet won't go down without a fight and we, the cycling fans, are the winners as a result. Porte isn't likely to initiate anything himself, but he is a valuable ally to have for those who actually do try something. And there is lot more than one stage, where it is possible to try something. Your Contador-fandom makes you see things in a far too dark light at the moment.

I think it can only be good for the race, it's not hopeless at all, so the chances the opportunities to attack will actually be used are quite good. Plus: Contador having to do stuff is always good for any race.
