EF have 7 riders in that group including Higuita and Kangert and so far not sighted anywhere near the front
Pretty sure they didn't have more than 5- Higuita, Woods, Kangert and TJVG judging by final results with Craddock barely hanging onto the group and then dropping.

Bettiol and Scully were both in that group after Ala and Benoot went clear

Still in GC : Allaphilipe, Pinot, Quintana, Benoot, Bilbao, Teuns , Higuita , Woods, Kangert AND THE SHARK
And Schachmann. He is not the favorite for the hill top finish, but normally he wont't loose much. Alaphilippe and Teuns looked also strong today and they can both time trial well.

RhD brought up an interesting point earlier on, considering the circumstances the race could be ridden like every stage is the last one.

I couldn't see them but if you insist they were there, then I guess they must have been shot after chasing the original 16 and drop from the group well before the end of the stage. Scully finished at 97th place 9 minutes down.

What a silly thing to risk on stage 1
It was probably necessary in order to connect with any group.
Even with it he ended 15 minutes behind.
Riding alone in that weather would've been devastating.

Didn't see it coming although was pretty flagrant.

A "lot" is debatable. We'll see. He was one second faster than Lopez in Algarve and Quintana beat Bernal in the Colombian ITT.

I know, he disappointed me in Algarve. But this TT seems more comparable to the one in Itzulia last year where he obliterated the opposition.
