Congratulations to Laporte for taking the win.

It was special on how JV as a team prepared the field and after for Laporte, Roglič and van Aert to finish it off in a TTT. I guess we now have the answer to on how they will manage Roglič and van Aert in this season. Through TTT. Dennis already succeeded in positioning JV at the right place in the peloton. I had some ideas yesterday, examining the stage profile. In the end i just said i am happy as a week full of good pro cycling is ahead. Stage 1 turned out to be much more then i ever anticipated. And considering the tension building up for the ultimate spat at the Tour. And this early in the season.

Beautiful.

Just read that this was Rogličes 40th second place finish. Add the wins and you are in total around the number 100. Best Slovenian so far at PN finished third in 2015. The name might sound familiar. Simon Špilak.

Laporte finally decided to stop being merciful and take the win for himself and showing Latour who the greater is.

Hi Kwibus, nice to hear from you again. The only problem that I have with the results is that Laporte made it look too easy. He rode everyone off, but stayed in the front. It wasn't like he couldn't hold it anymore. He just kept motoring to the finish with the other world class riders. Other than that it would have been very easy to understand WVA and Roglic riding everyone off their wheels. I don't think anyone else could have followed except Pogacar and MVdP on the other side of the racing.
you need to watch it again; I think he did like 2 5sec turns after the hill

Only real winner this week will be Rog vs Pog hypotheticals

To make the discussions even more lively they probably won't meet in a stage race until the Tour. Pog won't do Basque Country as he's commited to the Flandres and it's likely he will choose the Tour of Slovenia in June. They barely meet in the first half of the year, do they?

Not surprised Laporte performing so well. He is an allrounder. He can sprint (not a topsprinter though), and he is a specialist of short hills. Sprints uphill etc. Roglic and Van Aert had to hold back for a while when he had some difficultys at the end of the climb. But also Roglic shouted at Van Aert to calm down when Roglic could'n stay in the wheel of Van Aert.

How cool would it be if Roglic got the French stage race curse off his back this week and shifted his schedule to also to the Tour of Slovenia.

Any chance of echelons today?
The wind will mostly come from the east with 20 km/h with gusts of 40 km/h. So that would mean crosswind most of the time. Is the route exposed today?
