I have to say, considering the team they brought, that's a piss-poor result from Jumbo. Foss, Dennis, Vingegaard, Affini, Tratnik... Barely better than EF and Jayco. Only 21s better than UAE with a weak-ish TT team.
in proper TTT format UAE will lost 40-50 sec easily. Although it still close regardless but the gap will be slightly bigger

You have to consider the impact of a format that's basically a long Olympic Sprint. UAE shed too many riders leaving Tadej to likely do much more work (I have not seen any highlights, though). That may have impact on tomorrow's results.

Impossible to say because they would not have ditched those riders that soon. They now had no incentive to keep riding to the finish because their job was done. Regardless, Jumbo has the current WCC TT and a former WCC TT here, with one of the 4 best GC TT'ers in Vingegaard, to add Tratnik and Affini. They should have demolished the other teams.

Although if Jumbo didn't go for the yellow with Hooydonk, they could've only had Vinge going all in and gaining maybe another 5 or 10 seconds.

Yeah, yesterday, the smarter tactic - rather than have Van Hooydonck try to take bonus seconds ahead of Pogacar - would probably have been for Vingegaard to just glue himself to Pogacar's wheel.
if only they had a real fast man here that could take the intermediate sprints from Pog

I don’t think that’s the case. Tadej was sitting up on the hoods most of the time he wasn’t taking turns and there was only 5k or so with just a few riders left. I think this style of TT is an equalizer because weaker teams can have more leadout-esque sprint pulls toward the end to help limit the damages.

It was also way less fair than yesterdays TA ITT.
I think fair is hard to define. I suppose TTTs generally benefit teams with more money than ITTs but in and of it self I don’t think having a more team oriented stage is unfair, since this is a team sport. One team might be stronger in the mountains making it “unfair” there but if they have weaker flat TTers it could be evened out.

Did you watch the stage?

Pog was driving that TTT, he was pulling far more than anyone else in the team, to a degree where his power actually shed riders early.

It was him or Bjerg on the front for almost 50 % of the TTT.

I don't buy into the whole "burning matches is a problem" thing, in a 1 week stage race of intermediate difficulty, but we have to stick to the facts ;)

It's certainly not as big a gap as they would have wanted, but also a TTT is not simply putting a few good time trialists together and you win. It's no coincidence that the Jumbo guys who have shown to the best form in the last week are the guys who were left at the finish line.

Well Vingegård needs to drop Pogačar there, otherwise he will likely lose the race on bonus seconds.

That depends.

Tomorrow the intermediate seconds will probably be in the hands of the break (I predict Cort taking it from the break)... and if Pogacar attacks on the final climb, it stands to reason Vingo will be in his wheel, so Pog will earn max 4 seconds.

Thursday I see puncheurs going for the intermediate sprint, as that is the perfect place to attack for the win.

Friday is probably going to be won from a break (both intermediate and finish).

Saturday is a 16 K final climb, where Vingo might very well have the advantage over Pog, and if not Pog just gets another 4 seconds.

Sunday is another puncheur stage IMO.

I will be close, but it's not a given Pog can find the 11 seconds necessary.

I think jumbo's strategy on this TT was quite wrong. They should "burn" more riders until the end.

Unless the strategy is to send Van Hooydonck or Tratnik up the road in the coming days, to force UAE to burn up Pogs helpers chasing the break.

- though they probably hadn't factored in that Cort would take yellow - so unless Cort hits the break tomorrow, EF will become UAE allies.
