Tomorrow I expect a breakaway stage and I wouldn't be surprised if Cort, Pedresen or even De Lie are there.

yeah, I'd think so too. Here's a profile of the final circuit (from the roadbook):

they did the mur in the 2018 edition. It's tough, but usually it's difficult to make much of a difference on those super steep, shortish climbs.

So no more chances for sprinters: a hilly stage followed by two mountain stages. Tomorrow it can be interesting in the last 30 km but top GC guys will want to save something for the last two stages. The question is: how many stages will Teddy win this weekend? He's the favourite everytime a selected group of climbers finish together (if he doesn't drop everyone before, that is). Obviously breakaways are a big factor as well. My guess is two stages but even a hattrick is possible.
I think tomorrow will most likely go to the breakaway because it's their best chance of taking a win out of the remaining three stages. Also, the GC teams will likely save their riders for the two mountain stages. In the unlikely situation where the break is caught tomorrow, Pogacar is going to be the favorite because the final 500 m are uphill with a gradient of almost 7%.

I do think Pogacar will take the two mountain stages this weekend. He should be the best climber on Couillole (and he's gonna be the favorite in case it comes down to a sprint) and he said in the post-stage interview that he likes stage 8 the most (out of the remaining three stages) because he trains on those roads.

Pedersen, Cort, De Lie, Matthews, Garcia Cortina, Kaden Groves, Kragh, Dewulf, Turgis, Swift, and even Demare/Kristoff on a good day...(am I missing anyone?)... should be a fun stage with a lot of the puncheurs fighting it out.

I don't see UAE/Jumbo/FDJ/Jayco doing much, it's probably rather Trek, EF, Alpecin and Lotto who will try to control the early break, which is sure to contain Gregaard.

Mind you, it may be 70K+ before the break goes tomorrow, and if that is the case, I wouldn't put it past Trek to send both Pedersen and Skjelmose in a break (and Bora send Chessman out as well), which would completely change the dynamics of the stage... it's up and down all day, with a lot of tailwind, so an offensive strategy may very well pay off, depending on how strong the wind is.

Congratulations to Olav Kooij for winning the sprint.

He was close many times and patience finally paid off today. I hope Démare, Gaudu and Pogi didn't need to go in some elevator today. That could end badly.

If top guys really wanted they could blow up the race there. It's not just this muuur but also a couple of uphill kms afterwards (with false flats in between), which would slow down the recovery of chasing groups. They will probably ride more conservatively though given what awaits at the weekend and a breakaway will have good chances today.

yeah, maybe I didn't make it clear, but I meant to say that those sprinters mentioned can win from the breakaway. From the peloton, this will be another win for Pogacar.

Doubtful the stage will take place.

They are very close to Nice and at a low elevation. I think the stage should take place. Unfortunately tomorrow's ascent to Couillole is more of a question mark following large precipitation today and during the night.

EDIT: Yeah, wind could be a problem.

Got at least 5 inches of snow in Morley near Leeds, West Yorkshire where it’s pretty hilly. Got bus instead of car to work and all the surrounding snow reminds me of Carpegna last year. With that in mind I hope for another Pog smash.

Yeah Pogacar can farm races in March, but when Vingegaard sees the snow, the race is off

Who is the real boss now?
