Wow Skjelmose ... really really great

I think he is alot stronger that he gives himself credit for
He went around Remco the other day uphill no problem ...how much power is that ?

I think he could maybe do something on Sunday ...Maybe with the help of Pederson and co ? Still there for me for the win

Something quite wrong with Roglic ? We havent seen him so much on the back foot in a stage race for a long time. Yes its Paris Nice but has been the race the produces the Tour winner over many years

As for the boy wonder Remco ...looked second rate on the climbs which was surprise ...it wasnt about chasing ...he didnt seem to have climbing legs

I wish Pog was saving himself for the Tour

I wouldn't judge Evenepoel too harshly at this stage.

He is gearing up for a full Ardennes campaign, so he is not supposed to be in top shape until Amstel, which is over a month away.

Roglic is a different matter, as he is usually very good at this point.

There is a slight chance however that it is Bora strategy, for Roglic not to hit a peak until late June, to maximise his chances against Pogacar and Vingegaard at the Tour, but it would be quite a fundamental change for him.

Switching teams can make the early season more difficult so a slower start could be expected (planed or not planned).

Remco learning the hard way - https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...ibly-costs-remco-evenepoel-paris-nice-victory
"Maybe I gambled too much on the steep climb. Perhaps I could respond to Matteo Jorgenson's attack. I made a small tactical mistake. No, a big tactical mistake,” he admits in the microphone of Sporza. “In the end they reached the top with three. Then they looked at me and Primoz Roglic, which makes sense. We lost a lot of time on that spur."

"That's the race. Maybe next time I shouldn't think so much and just follow the feeling and the legs," he concluded.
I was wondering that if all the big 4 get to the Tour, we might have a lot of tactical games and looking at each other. Who knows maybe, it'll be like when Carapaz won the Giro when Roglic and Nibali slowed and looked at each other.

So what's happened to Gaudu? Yesterday was,
“I made a rookie mistake, a teenager mistake even,” said David. “I took off my jacket, and when I wanted to throw it to an assistant on the side of the road, it got caught in my handlebars. I made a big mistake. I found myself on the ground, and a bit stunned at the time because another rider fell on me.”
and today, 17 min 20 secs down, so the crash must have hurt more then FDJ were saying.

What happened to Ilan Van Wilder? Sick? He would have made a big difference in the chase

Remco still probably the most likely GC winner. At least it doesn't look like headwind tomorrow and Sunday's stage will probably be more selective than the usual race finish

Congratulations to Mattias Skjelmose Jensen for winning the stage.

Too bad Buitrago crashed, as the way this race is unfolding it would further add to the tension. I must say i am enjoying this race, in my opinion this is some good racing. On what will happen in the next two days, just about anything is still possible.

As for Rogla and his performance today. If he would make a bigger gap, then sure why not. Somehow i feel this was more of a stress test and not an all out attack. For starters he would need proper shorts not to overcook.

As for remaining two stages. I do expect changes in GC.

It was interesting, as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rider from a Northern European country (mostly non-Catholic region) bless themselves crossing the finish line. I’m sure it has happened before but I’ve mainly seen that from Spanish, Italian, and S. American riders.
It's because young Danes haven't learnt how to behave (they lack Bildung, as the Germans would say). Like when Vingegaard puts his hand to the chest when the national anthem is played. They've watched too much TV with no adults sitting next to them to provide them with context.

Just checked the 2016 edition, stage 6, which finished on the same climb. Hard to see big gaps opening up on that climb. I guess it should suit TT-climbers better than lanky climbers, but the only way guys like Roglic, Evenepoel, Jorgenson... are going to take time, is if they actually can break away (by which i mean just riding tempo isn't going to cut it). I think the pace will need to be incredibly high from the start of the stage, with a sprint leadout up the first part of the climb. Otherwise i see a group of 15 guys sprinting for the win.

For the moment i heard he had a bad day due to the weather, coming from UAE last week. Didn't cope going from desert weather to cold and rain well. But i suspect he might actually be sick. He was riding the TTT with his shirt all the way open. I suppose he had opened it before the rain hit. Might have something to do with it.

You have to say, this is generally a pretty darn good stage race, and this year it's been pretty entertaining again. Nice to see Roglič on the attack, something many have been asking of him, and he put in a good dig. The lesson for him may be that today's tactic was the wrong one for him, but it was good to see him on the go at a point in the race he generally doesn't. Course seems to be a good one so far.

2 Americans in front is pretty cool, but those teams have been crushing everyone and seem on another level even from previous years.

More interesting race than most, for me anyway. Some good, attacking racing with consequences in the rain. Course change and likely a very hot race Saturday. Should be good!
