Damn Almeida looks like he is not going to finish in the top 10 of the GC.

First time since the Deutschland Tour in 2021.
It is his first race of the season. Could just be that he needs the racing miles. Dont know if there has been any problems for him in the off-season or first months this year?

Anyway, one would have to see him in the next few races and how he gets on.

He missed Figueira and Algarve, because he was sick.

That explains it. Probably missed a week or so of training and put down his form a bit.

Suisse and Tour are probably his biggest goals this season. To be in the best possible shape in those races.
Vuelta starts in Portugal, so I'd say Tour and Vuelta.

The intermediate sprint is at an interesting place: halfway up the Col d'Èze. They only do the final 3 km of that climb, which is the steepest part. My favorite place to attack would be just after the intermediate sprint. Let the others waste their energy sprinting for bonus seconds; then fly away from an elite group where nobody's willing to cooperate.

There's got to be some déjà-vu for McNulty here, i.e. just like Itzulia 2021 when he had the leaders jersey going into the final tricky rollercoaster stage... & cracked.

Usually looking at the route I'd have to say Evenepoel should be a serious bet for the win (both stage & GC) but Jorgenson is a problem for him. He won't cooperate with Evenepoel if McNulty has already cracked (which I expect to happen), ergo Evenepoel is going to have to do a lot on his own.

It's at the very top of Èze from that side. You only have a flat plateau afterwards before the descent.

IMO the place to attack for Evenepoel is Cote de Peille. It has a short, steep enough section, the plateau should suit him to a tee if he drops the right people, and he might get the right guys with him as well.

Puh. Went for a long run and arm-waved/shouted at people on the sidewalk for being in the way to get myself amped for the stage today.
I do a similar thing, any time a Grand Tour route is announced I prepare by yelling at the clouds for a solid hour. If the sky is completely clear that day it doesn't have quite the same effect and I might give some positive points about the route

Congratulations to Aleksandr Anatoljevič Vlasov for winning the stage.

Tactically sound move by Bora. Now as for stage 8, here i feel that the race is still to close, for nothing to happen. So we will likely enjoy it, as we did the past couple of stages, this race already delivered some good racing and there is more to come.

Pithie, Jacobs & Campenaerts have got a gap on the first flat section. The former is 4 points behind Pedersen in the points competition, but Skjelmose (7 points behind) or Evenepoel (12 points behind) will likely win it.

The three in front have more than a minute.

At the bottom of Levens now. The gap is 2 minutes, so everyone in the peloton is waiting for the climb to attack.

Bilbao is my dark horse for the stage win, I think he sat up early on purpose yesterday.

Pithie has been dropped from the front and is back in the peloton.
