I think De Gendt will be with the leaders at the finish so whether he keeps the lead or not depends on time bonuses really.

i think the chances for a sprinter to win this are pretty small.astana will kill almost everyone on that climb, vino will attack.a group of 5 gc contenders will sprint for the win.luis leon sanchez will get it.

That climb's distance and average gradient is similar to the one on stage 3 of the tour of britain where henderson got dropped i think?

It's not so steep and the weather that day was shocking. Also, Sky and Henderson expected him to make the selection, so it was within his capabilities on a good day. I'd say that there's a good chance he'll make this climb. The question is what tactics Sky want to use, do they risk towing him up and then chasing the break down or do they leave him to it and try to get men into the break.

Haussler ftw.

I'm disappointed, all the time I was sure the 5.1km (5.3%) category 2 mountain is 12.5km to the line, then a long descend and obviously the big names group on the finish. But what do I see now? Another stage that will highly possible end up in sprint. And tomorrow's stage... it isn't much better... and this tt... I still hope this is PARIS - NICE, not Tour of California (French version) and pray for two successful escapes: today and tomorrow, otherwise it'll be THE WORST edition of PN for years
Edit: Vino should try today :)

I think Sagan will win this. Not that im joining the hype train or anything, and id rather he didnt, but his ability in weakened sprint finishes is undeniable.

If Goss gets over the climb though then it will be him.

This stage could really have any type of result. It all depends whether or not a team like Rabobank or Movistar is willing to really push it in those last 30kms to shed the likes of Haussler or Goss. Which is possible, although the course offers shelled sprinters ample opportunity to return (22kms of gradual descent) and therefore the question is more whether there's the motivation to keep the peloton moving. I doubt the climb is difficult enough to shed Sagan though, and therefore expect him to win.

Everybody seems to be in denial. Sky will win...Geraint Thomas with a late attack inside the last k. ;)

I think he'll be whipped by Thomas Geraint who got another namecheck on French TV yesterday.

Hopefully we'll see guys like Vino, Taaramae and van den Broeck put in a big attack on the climb and try to hold the pack off to the finish. Could put people in an interesting position. With Martin being the favourite, HTC may have to chase meaning that Goss and the other climbing sprinters are left behind. Or maybe they'll let the climbing sprinters come back on at the top of the climb and then go for it on the descent.

Anyway, ready for the off now. Sicard is a non-starter.
