Man, I know it makes sense for safety but I still hate it when they shorten stages. There might have been some really fast riding over the climbs in the first 30km with lots of people trying to get in a break.

It's still pretty bumpy from then on. 150km~ makes me think maybe the break could stay away?

The stage has been shortened. They cut off the first 53 km. Susan

Damn that global warming! /only a partial snark

I understand a race "to the sun", but am a bit unclear why they shy away from whence they come. I mean, isn't the shirking of race radios meant to bring cycling back to its roots?

Didier Cuche and Lindsey Vonn (no surprise) win the WC Globe in downhill SKI racing today.

How dare it snow in France and Italy.

the race started about 30 minutes ago.

there was a 3-man break that was caught. another 3-man break seems more successful. the gap is at about a minute.

contador update:
In l’Equipe, Alberto Contador says he still feels pain in his leg after his crash in the first stage : "The day went reasonably well. But I’ve still got itches in my leg a little bit and the next couple of days will be crucial. I’m not a 100 percent and I don’t like that. I can’t keep an ideal position on the bike. I’m going to see day by day."

I have heard it said that days two and three after you have a bad crash are actually tougher than day one.

The three-man break has a 5:15 advantage. One would think they need to start reeling that back in soon.

Now up to 5:50. Roelandts is in virtual yellow by a large margin (he started the day 49 seconds down).

Someone has finally managed to pull ahead in the battle for a Tour wildcard spot, for the first time Skil has managed to get a guy in the break but Vacansoleil has not.

But Vacan could be saving men to try and get Borut or Feillu over the hills, Skil don't have that option

Sounds like BMC needs to chase.
