Looks like Leipheimer at 3:57 and Casar at 4:03 will set the length of the leash. I wonder if guys who are way back like Martin & Cunego will try to drop them for a better chance to stay away?

Whoops. Sylvain Chavanel is there at 1:27. The other guys are gonna have to have a little chat with him I'm afraid.

Paris-Nice is such a short race (relatively speaking), I don't think anyone with ambition to win can let a break go on a day like this. I think Valverde and Lulu will send Caisse to the front somewhere around the second to last cat 3 climb. Euskaltel will join them because so far they don't have much to show for this Paris-Nice.

Obviously, I could be wrong. Look at my Macho Man hype!

Caisse, Garmin and Astana of the front now. Don't know how hard they are pushing.

If Levi tries to stay away and used Tiago to pace him up the cat1, then and only then does he gain back some respect in my mind

I was meaning let a break go by only a couple of minutes if the best placed rider isn't too far down.

But you're right. They have a rider in the break to help them later on. So does Contador for that matter.

I just saw that Chavanel is in the group. As of the moment he is in virtual yellow. No way this group stays away at this gap.

Yep, Martin and Cunego will try and drop them. Don't know why Chavanel is there. Doesn't the man have brains? As if the peloton would let him stay away. Waste of energy. Unless he wanted to be there at the top of the climb when the others come rather than being in the peloton and maybe being dropped. That's the only reason I see him in the break.

the strongest climbers in the lead group are cunego and ll. chavanel can climb too. If kolobnev survives the main climb, my money would be on him and cunego.

Back down to 1:15. I think they reel them back in weed out the riffraff, then let another group go who are farther behind. The peloton has really been pushing again today. The Cat 1 should end up being kind of brutal.

1:35 now.

Maybe a Garmin rider will try and bridge across? Liquigas too, who aren't represented.

Liquigas. That's an important omission from the group. So far they are not (at least according to the text feed) on the front of the peloton yet. But the gap is coming back down. It's 1:05 as I type this.

A few of these guys like Chavanel need to drop back to the peloton to give this break a chance. Still a minute and 20 seconds. No doubt, it will be brought back in the next 20km and then as someone mentioned, guys will launch themselves again.
