I just hope Kerr didn't not jump on purpose to share the guaranteed gold with the american (it looked like an absolute no effort jump) because he may have got screwed.
I doubt it, when jumpers (vaulters and high jumpers) get fatigued and are trying to get a high above their PB their steps can messed up and you’ll see them run through or under the bar.

China will miss out on the most golds in the second summer Olympics in a row. Barely. Probably by one again or two. What a pity.

I haven't watched a single discipline where China got a medal Im pretty sure. Are they just winning lots of medals in more or less niche sports, or whats going on? Then again, I havent really watched that many different sports, but man, I would have expected US to be way ahead tbh.

Only some medal ceremonies left now - so long Stade de France, it's been a joy. And I actually liked the lavender track, I will fight any commentator who calls it purple instead of lavender!

I caught a bit of the women's diving and the Chinese women are just stunning in that sport. Maybe the Chinese men as well but I didn't watch them.

I think it’s pretty much events that you’d expect both countries to excel in, but what’s likely going to help was the likes of Cole Hocker, Hall, Benjamin (all in track events). All of them won, and for me, Hockef and Hall unexpectedly. The women’s soccer team also squeaked their way through to the gold. Their game have all been 1-0.

Also, the way Serbia was playing for much of the semifinal game, the US men had no business winning that game. I’ve already wrote enough about that game, don’t want to go on about it.

it's still very open, at least if Li now takes the gold in boxing.

They have another weightlifter to come tomorrow, USA a wrestler (or maybe Volleyball) to decide things.

Golds by sports so far:

Diving 8
Shooting 5
Table tennis 5
Weightlifting 4
Gymnastics 3
Artistic swimming 2
Badminton 2
Boxing 2
Canoeing 2
Swimming 2
Athletics (Walk) 1
Cycling (BMX) 1
Tennis 1

so lots of niche/artistic stuff, yeah, but Tennis was pretty mainstream. They also took bronze in the Golf today, and came surprisingly close in Hockey.

edit: missed Gunara's post above.

France is not out of the basketball final yet. They could even have been less than 6 points behind ahead of the last quarter. I don't really think they will be able to win though, but stranger things have happened.
