Cramp (luckily). 9.85 a very good time for him so it bodes pretty well for the 4 x 100, Italy probably favourites there for a bronze, and also to mop up any errors from USA/Jamaica.Looks like Jacobs injured himself. Wont see him until LA 2028

Analysis of ~1300 sprints:Is there any data on variation in reaction times?
Everyone who was all up in arms about how the USA media reports medals can rest now.![]()
It was less being 'up in arms' about it, more that it was highly likely the US would top the table once the events like T&F began, where the US could expect a large haul of medals, and poking fun at the fragile egos of the press that they couldn't cope with America not being top of the medal table start to finish - and then contriving a silly, convoluted and entirely unnecessary graph to explain themselves when called out.Everyone who was all up in arms about how the USA media reports medals can rest now.![]()
A make-good moment for Taylor Knibb as well, after her cycling time trial was memorable for all the wrong reasons.Great race there in the Triathlon Mixed today. France was unlucky to crash out early, but that resulted in quite a nailbiter between the Germans, GB and USA for Gold.
The women‘s pole vault has had it coming though, always going from super-makeable to top level in one or two heights would lead to mayhem at some point. It might be a long final with 20 competitors.Absolute chaos in the Pole Vault as it turns out 4,40 is enough to get through to the final, some 30cm below the qualifying height. Only eleven cleared 4,55, so everybody who cleared 4,40 first time is through. Massive reprieve for some high profile underachievers like Tina Šutej and Olivia McTaggart, although Anicka Newell is still out after needing all three attempts to clear 4,40.
The big story, however, is Molly Caudery being eliminated without clearing a height. She was 5th in the Worlds last year and is the World Indoor Champion, and though her form wasn't great coming in, neither was Katie Moon's and she breezed through 4,55, or Wilma Murto's and she took two attempts but cleared it comfortably. But, having been the only athlete to pass 4,40, Caudery is a genuine medal contender eliminated without setting a mark.

I'll repeat what I already typed: IMO, it would be weird for USA media not to put the USA on the top of their charts. Also, I'd be shocked if they were the only ones, but, hold on to your hat here, I don't care how other countries report their medals. It was less being 'up in arms' about it, more that it was highly likely the US would top the table once the events like T&F began, where the US could expect a large haul of medals, and poking fun at the fragile egos of the press that they couldn't cope with America not being top of the medal table start to finish - and then contriving a silly, convoluted and entirely unnecessary graph to explain themselves when called out.
I'll repeat what I already typed too: that a few people were just having a bit of light-hearted fun at the US press' desperate need to portray themselves as being the best at all times, and given it was almost certain that they would be comfortably top of the table by the end of the Games anyway, it was a bit amusing from an outside perspective.I'll repeat what I already typed: IMO, it would be weird for USA media not to put the USA on the top of their charts. If that's at me, you missed because I'm not the least bit offended (actually lmao). More amusing than putting your own team on the top of the list, is people form other teams protesting it.I'll repeat what I already typed too: that a few people were just having a bit of light-hearted fun at the US press' desperate need to portray themselves as being the best at all times, and given it was almost certain that they would be comfortably top of the table by the end of the Games anyway, it was a bit amusing from an outside perspective.
But some people took offence at that for some reason.

It wasn't really at you tbh, but either way, nobody that I can see was protesting it, they were simply poking fun at the silliness and complete unnecessariness of it. This was never meant to be a serious discussion. I don't know about in the other thread where the links to the Washington Post, the NYT and others were first posted, but in here this started as just a joking aside between me and Chewie about how the US kept getting silvers and bronzes in the early part of the games. If that's at me, you missed because I'm not the least bit offended (actually lmao). There might be a couple of random gold medals coming in one of the silliest new events, the kayak cross. I really enjoy the kayak slalom events, massive test of strength and resilience and technique, but the cross is... bad

Get the alternative medal counts back up quick!!!
We are languishing down the table with a paltry 10 golds but the track cycling has started so hopefully we can turn things around with future Quickstep star Ethan Hayter.
That long wait at the start went from building tension to dragging on a bit. Simbine ran 9.82 and missed out on bronze, very close race.
Track cycling starts today if Im not mistaken. Always fun to watch on the big stage!
We hit the new low in badminton with only one bronze. Everyone saw it coming though.
Speed climbing and weightlifting may provide some joy, but when your adopted national sport failed so hard, general mood can only be lifted to limited height.
It's hard for a country with very few sports to excel on and so many heads to please😁
Which now seems to have been locked for some reason, unfortunately - perhaps the admin/mod meant to pin it and hit the wrong button, or my post about the equipment was not welcomeThere's even a thread about it in the Track Cycling Section.
