It's kinda funny sure, but he's probably pretty giddy himself. He had to sit out Tokyo after testing positive for Covid when he was a medal favourite, albeit still behind Mondo, so it's been a long wait for him to get what realistically was rightfully his. This is just one of those disciplines where 2nd is victory for the field. Mondo is going to win, whoever comes 2nd won the competition for mere mortals.

Mondo probably has a good few WRs in him yet. He's Bubkaing it, doing it in 1cm increments, if he just stayed out there and kept vaulting at some events if he was in a rhythm, he could probably raise the WR by a good 10cm given some of his clearances, but if you've already sent the crowd home happy with a world record, why gild the lily?

It wasn't really at you tbh, but either way, nobody that I can see was protesting it, they were simply poking fun at the silliness and complete unnecessariness of it. This was never meant to be a serious discussion. I don't know about in the other thread where the links to the Washington Post, the NYT and others were first posted, but in here this started as just a joking aside between me and Chewie about how the US kept getting silvers and bronzes in the early part of the games.

Meanings aren't always easy to convey in text form, but it comes across that you have interpreted the comments people have made about the tables/graphs as having been serious and found amusement in it, while we on the flip side have found amusement in the tables/graphs presented and interpreted the response as serious.

I interpreted it as jealousy, hence my amusement.

If it was all for fun that's good.

Regarding 100m finals:

Looking at the slowmo I think Kishane still has some unfulfilled gains to make in his stride efficiency. To me it looks like his contact with the ground happens more under his body than it should, leading to a less relaxed run than desired. It probably doesn't amount to much but in a race as tight as yesterday's can be the defining factor between a win or a second place.

Lyles on the opposite has a beautiful and flawless stride to look at. Completely in control and without compromising his form even coming from a deficit.

If NL can start better imagine the possibilities. Kishane is just getting started on his international carreer.

His father used to pole vault.

They had a set up in his backyard and from a very young age he took to it.

His unique technique, where he slides the pole into the box, comes from him not being strong enough when he was younger to lift the pole into the box. He never changed it and his technique is excellent. All of the others has to work on their technique all the time. He doesnt. He can focus on other areas like his speed and acceleration. Strength.

And about his speed/acceleration... nobody runs as fast as him. Nobody has his skillset or can use his technique, they have tried but said it is just not possible to slide it for them.

So I was just imagining tiny little Armand going "WEEeee!" through the air.

Of course, it's quite probable he only did that once, and then his parents decided to make sure he'd be able to do it in a more... controlled manner.
