I'm home biased;) A dane will take it!

- remember there are more Danes than Pedersen and Asgreen:sunglasses:

Mikkel Bjerg ended number 15 in Flanderns after doing work for Pogacar and if he is not riding for Trentin, then he could be a contendor. He looks like he is in good form and can do a TT.

Far out but Mathias Norsgaard ended 29 last year after a lot of bad luck on the way - he will probably have a free role on Movistar.

yeah, with a bit of bias, you can find arguments like that for almost half the field ;).

But that's also part of the beauty of Roubaix. Many of those really have a shot at winning it, depending on how the race develops.

I would not call him an outsider. I think he's on tier 2 with Pedersen and van Baarle. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner comes out of these three.
I wouldn't be surprised if the winner comes from the one star tier. Or a rider not even mentioned. It's Roubaix after all.

But this is a race with two clear favorites. All of the others are outsiders to me.

Van Baarle had two stars only (in Het Nieuwsblad) last year as well, by the way. Colbrelli one the year before.

Colbrelli one the year before.
He had also never done the race before.

I have no doubt that Ganna has the physiological capabilities needed to win the race. If he saves himself for the finale (Mons-en-Pévèle) and avoids bad luck, an attack by him would be super deadly.

Has Ganna ever been good in a really tough race? Sanremo is super easy with a 4000m kind of effort in the final.

Ineos also has the oldest competitor in the race (Wurf).

And I'm also not really sure what to expect from Ganna, but he seems to very determined at least. At home in Switzerland he simulated all efforts (on climbs, of course, not cobbles) exactly as they are required in Roubaix.

Tarling about to be the youngest rider to participate in Roubaix since 1937.

I remember back in 2018 when it was a bit of a story that T. Turgis was the first teenager since... I dunno when.
Interesting that this year there will be three teenagers in the race.

Also a 160km ride on most key sectors one week ago, alongside Tarling.

Surely you can't give Ganna more than one star. Aside from finishing 10th at E3 miles off that best, what has Ganna done on the cobbles to show that he's a contender here now? I'm disregarding MSR because that's a completely different race.
Roubaix is completely different from other races as well. To me Ganna is probably second favourite after MVDP. It's both the appeal and the annoying thing about this race that basically anyone can win it, given the right circumstances. And for Ganna it's not even that much of a stretch.

Apparently only Laporte, Van Baarle and Affini will use the pressure system.

Screams absolute confidence in it.
Laporte probably thought "can't be any worse than last year". And similarly, Van Baarle apparently spent the whole of last week on the toilet, so he has nothing to lose either.

he did what must have been the longest interview of his life today, so seems to be in a really good mood ;)

Among others, there's one with van Avermaet as well. He'll go for the Mathew Hayman tactics and try to join the breakaway.
I'm inclined to say that Greg's decline has been worse to watch than Sagan's, as weirdly as that may sound. Sagan evidently doesn't care very much and his training ethos probably reflects this. Van Avermaet, otoh, as of two weeks ago, still has visions of Fata Morganae where he can hang with the best and spends gazillions of hours on the bike.

Sagan has retired and lives like a retiree, Van Avermaet has retired but nobody has told him yet.

I have a little soft sport for Laporte in this race cause I"ll never forget Laporte literally using his foot on the back wheel to break becuase of all the mechanicals 2 years ago

Van Avermaet is simply a professional, and if you read his interviews he's 100% aware his best days are behind him.
