This race is crazy. From what i have heard its like a race 100 years ago that nobody could watch and the journalists would just look at the results and weave a dramatic tale

Material has really improved over the last years, much less mechanicals than 20 or 30 years ago. Has become much more predictable and possible to lay out a specific plan for the teams. I think the last years it was mainly van Aert who suffered a decisive set-back due to a puncture.

I mean, this kind of thing is always possible with Roubaix, since unlike the Ronde cobbles, a lot of these sectors are only ever used by agricultural machinery so their condition is far worse, they don't get regular traffic to need maintaining.

The lottery element keeps us at least having some kind of hope that it's not going to be the same old same old, but the drawback of it is that it is a lottery element.
