This year has been next level, though (at least relative to past years)
I think it's more that it's been bigger in terms of the names that are affected, although the fact that the sport has such a clear haves-have nots divide at the moment means that it's disproportionately important if any one of them is affected, and when they all are it is obviously dramatic.
Kinda like how GT GC contenders crash out of the race every year, but 2014 with Froome and Contador, the number 1 and 2 favourites for the race, both crashing out in the first few days seems disproportionately impacted.
And where on the road the other ones that have been impacted have been has also exacerbated the perception. In other years there may have been just as many incidents and mechanicals but it's not really relevant if it's in a group 3-4 minutes down.
