Sure, why risk any of them (there were 3 or 4 of them in the front at that moment) KNOWING they could be helping on the flat sections, for an off chance they MIGHT be able to help later, IF he isn't cooked by then. Genious.
What are you on about? Van Aert is in the front group, looking strong and with a good chance of winning the race. Hardly a tactical disaster.

He still not understanding the point that if they had went back they would have only been able to help for a few seconds before being dropped by Van Aert anyway. But yeah they could have sent someone down to help for 10 seconds.

Me very well understanding.

Better to have a race with domestiques that can't win at the front, than not cooking the only guy in your team that actually can. There is no use to have them at the front, if he is never coming back. But sure, he came back, so indeed, hindsight 20/20, lol. If they have someone wait on the flat sections, they could have done him a big favor.

They could have sent someone for the 5km between the sectors, however. Bit yes, not so easy.

Peloton gaining time slowly but surely. This might not be over yet
It's over. This is Roubaix, at this stage no gap is closed easily and gaps always stagnate at this stage in the race

The gambling in the second group is funny to watch. I think they'll get back though.
