What are you on about? Van Aert is in the front group, looking strong and with a good chance of winning the race. Hardly a tactical disaster.
 
He still not understanding the point that if they had went back they would have only been able to help for a few seconds before being dropped by Van Aert anyway. But yeah they could have sent someone down to help for 10 seconds.

Me very well understanding.

Better to have a race with domestiques that can't win at the front, than not cooking the only guy in your team that actually can. There is no use to have them at the front, if he is never coming back. But sure, he came back, so indeed, hindsight 20/20, lol. If they have someone wait on the flat sections, they could have done him a big favor.

They could have sent someone for the 5km between the sectors, however. Bit yes, not so easy.
