By the way Arenberg isn't really the hardest pavé. Carrefour de l'Arbre is.

Arenberg has been taken in the opposite direction a few times after 2005. So instead of a descend it was an ascend, thus making it less dangerous. But they scrapped that somewhere in 2008 I think and took it as a descend again.

There's nothing quite like seeing the peleton play "let's squeeze 200 riders from a 4 lane road into the entrance of Arenberg":)

single lane road at each end of the forrest...

If I'm going next year, I'll ride the Arenberg anyway, it's like going to Rome and not visiting the Colosseum FFS.

true. it is a hell of a section to ride

have ridden both sections, I dispute that claim. I found both Arenberg and Mons-en-Pévéle tougher than Carrefour...

It's easier to make mistakes on L'arbre, and it's also a section ridden near the finish line. It really is a harder section in the race. It's the best shot you have of getting away from your opponents because of all the twists.

It could change the dynamic of the race as Arenberg is a landmark of the real start of the racing.

What the team cars can't keep track of distance? I'm sure they'll know when its time to kick it into to gear, with or without Arenberg...

I don't understand the reasoning. "In order to cut down kilometers"? In 2005 it was taken out for maintenance, right? I can understand that, but not this. If they want a shorter race they could move the start a bit. And why would you want to shorten a monument anyway?

amount of km would be a problem, but I understand all this are vague speculations?
But when PR is not +260k but only +250k, the Gold Race (only race 250K besides monuments and WC-RR) lacks only history and is almost like a monument :D
