Patrick Lefevere to step down as Soudal Quick-Step CEO

Most riders loved him as a team manager, and that is what really matters. The great atmosphere in the squad is no stage play. Even when he was hard in the press, he rarely was unfair. And ask the likes of Fabio Jakobsen what he thinks of Lefevere. After a few months of inactivity, a team isn't obliged to keep paying the full wage, but Patrick kept honouring the contract.

He even paid for a private airplane for Jakobsen's parents and girlfriend to fly to Poland as quickly as possible.

The later is not only him. Vino and Astana still honoured Scarponi's contract after he had died and payed his wife and children the money until the end of the contract (at the end of the year).

Better hope the team folds soon.

Bakala - "With this transition I demonstrate my commitment to the long-term future of the team and ensuring a bright future for Soudal Quick-Step."

The long term future, but not a long term commitment?

Fore - "I will now look to lead this team, working towards securing its long-term future"

Working towards getting a new owner?

You'll be lucky, I bet he still keeps his saturday newspaper comments job, personally I think we need characters in our sport who don't keep their mouths shut and play the politically correct corporate company spokesman line all the time.

Confess I had never heard of Bobby Knight, had to resort to Google.
Absolutely, the politically correct world of sport is so very boring. He is a true Flandrian, brash, bold, with a sarcastic sense of humor, a hard man for a hard man's sport. He's the last of a 70s-80s generation that folks who came afterwards or were born afterwords have no idea what free and adventurous spirits animated that era. By contrast, today everybody seems to relish at the opportunity of being offended, because everything has become offensive.
