I'm very happy that Paul Seixas is going to the Tour.

In his current form, 3rd place is a lock if he doesn't fade too much in the 3rd week.
If Vingegaard comes in too tired from the Giro (which I don't think will happen; I believe he'll win it uncontested), then we may have a decent fight for 2nd place.

Either way, fantastic news.

My early TDF top five picks:

1. Pog
2. Seixas
3. Vingo
4. Del Toro
5. Lipowitz

The 4 best climbers followed by the best diesel.

I know. I know. Going out on a real limb here with those five. 🤣😉

What if Pogi doesn't leave the gym on time? Seixas going for victory in his Tour debut?

If he's good enough, he's old enough.

Two months ago I would have said that it's too early and he'd better wait a year, but he's made such a big impression in the spring that my opinion has changed. Based on what we've seen in the past two months, he looks like a podium contender.

Of course there is a chance that this goes wrong. The expectations in the French media of the "next French Tour winner" can be a curse. If he has a bad day he will suddenly gets lots of negative criticism and have some explaining to do. On the other hand a 25-year old can also have a bad day.

His capacities over three weeks are an open question, but I don't expect him to collapse. Finishing between second and fifth in Paris seems realistic at this point, so it's probably the right decision.

I am delighted with this decision and truly believe that this is the best course of action.

While Seixas would have had a bigger chance of winning the Vuelta, for a Frenchman getting third in the Tour is probably as big as winning the Vuelta and given his level this season, I really think its quite possible that it happens. If he fails, then this is probably the only time that the French will understand it.

The other good reason for riding the Tour is that it allows him to recover and properly prepare for the Worlds and Lombardia, two races where he can also perform exceptionally well.

I'm not a big fan of modern communication, but I find this video quite touching and surely sincere.
But beyond the form, it was above all the content that appealed to me:hearteyes::hearteyes:
Very touching video indeed...between the setting, at his grandparents, grandpa is his biggest fan and says that he doesn't have much more time on Earth and that's a wonderful day...wow...if the prospect of giving his grandparents the best summer of their lives is what tipped the scale, bravo et Allez Paul Seixas!

What I think, what others think doesn't matter anymore: Le Tour it is. Alea jacta est.

I will be rooting for Paul to be (at least) the best of the rest. Can he handle a three-week race? No one knows...I believe that he can be up there comes the rest day after Solaison. After that, week 3 is loaded...and Pogacar is on fire.

Paul Seixas will make his grandparents proud.
