LOL. That must be why we never see riots at European national football matches.

ACF is certainly jingoistic, and VERY fond of Cadel, but I think most accept some of his comments in this light and admire/chuckle at (depending on your point of view) his extreme passion. Who's he hurting being a massive aussie cycling fan? Better than some of the slandering of goes on in these forums.

where are you talking about?? what riots?? haven't seen them in years in football, besides it has nothing to do with chauvinism but with pride. people are fans of football clubs not countrys in europe

People, seriously, last warning: the next post better be about Pegasus.

I have started a patriotism thread in the Cafe so this thread is not completely destroyed. Argue about it in that thread!

The age cycling section is usually a bit behind current events.
It appears that they are getting most if not all their info on this story from Cycling Australia (who also seem to be being kept in the dark by the team)

Cycling Australia represents its members. All Australian professional cyclists (and thus, all the Aussies on team Pegasus) are members of CA. As such, CA may seek to provide support to its members, which may be advising on their rights to sue etc. if there are issues with the contracts. CA may also provide other support to its members as well should it fall over. This is an appropriate approach/action for CA to take.

As for not being involved/in conversations with the team, this is likely to be around administrative hurdles, which Pegasus seem to have some troubles with. CA is involved with the UCI on the road scene through the Jayco Skins development team, so do have some experience in this. Not to mention they are the accredited national body.

Besides, if you were starting a team and trying to get a license, would you
a) go it alone
b) be happy if you got a National federation to help argue your case to the international body

Most certainly it would depend on the quality of National Federation (Im not questioning CA here, its not my federation). Also depends on what the team is trying to do
a. make a professional commercial team or
B. a national trade team

interesting that article is current yet they still use the on the brink of collapse phrase. makes it almost sound like they dont think the pro-conti application will be a success.

The girl who wrote it is quite knew to cycling and is traditionally an AFL writer so it may have just been an error.

No she isn't. She's been covering cycling for the last few years.

She's only done very little writing about Cycling. 90% of her pieces of writing are on AFL.

I'll ask her.

I wouldnt say a lot, just some. She's footy through and through but has to cover other sports in the off season. Although I did read an article that connects her to the cycling community, though I forget what it was.

She has written 87 articles on cycling in roughly 14 months (quick query, not bothered byt he detail) but the majority of them are fairly fluffly re-hashings of stories that were broken elsewhere. Such as the re-reporting of the COntador positive or the Landis issues.

She has done the odd interview in that list though.

However she is hardly a hardened cycling journo from the smokey trenches

So, we now have a chicken and the egg situation.
Were Pegasus European, I would say they had zero chance of gaining a licence, based on a vague promise claim.
However, I think the UCI will bend over backwards to help, in this case.

So she gets her cycling updates from ACF then. Got it.

+1. Pat will award them a PC license, and crow about globalization of cycling, and then the team falls apart by March because it was a hastily constructed house of cards that never really had all its financial foundations in place.
