Not to split hairs but I believe the useful idiots crack was from Lenin.

In any event, Phil is talking about the one thing he's truly expert on: taking money to lie. Like Armstrong, he figures if he's doing it, others must be doing it, too. Maybe in their respective fields, Liggit and Armstrong have a lot in common.

I always liked Phil, despite knowing he was getting paid to tout Lance. Broadcasters get paid to lie about brands, I figured, so why should Phil be any different?

But this is something different. What we see here transcends everyday commerce and descends pretty deeply, I think, into personal corruption and perfidiousness. And it has a whiff of the sinister about it.

Stop while you can, Phil.

You hit it right there I think maxiT

I wonder when Phil "knew" what was going on? Did he have a Sestriere moment? He had been in cycling for 20 years, he can't be that ignorant. A decade of knowingly lying and still going strong, he has to be one of Lance's greatest assets.

He found one of Bobke's blunts and choked it down. Now he believes just like Roll believes....money will come in until this pony is buried. Then they can sell tell-alls about what they knew and milk it for another decade.

I try not to hear but has Roll spouted anything Neanderthal lately?

Phil was the voice of cycling, but just before 2000 (not necessarily coincident with 1999 TdF, he became impossible to listen to. Calling out wrong riders, wrong results, etc. Unbearable. I miss the early 90's WCP videos (still have them on VHS, can't play them!).

When I heard he went full-bore man crush over Lance, the little Phil Liggett voice in my head died.

Sad to see how low he's fallen.

I have to agree. This is not regular Phil forgetting riders names or pronouncing them incorrectly. This is much more serious. He's announced that the FBI are paying witnesses to lie. This is not tomfoolery. He'll need to back this up with a source or some form of evidence. It's a shocking revelation.

These are very serious allegations by Mr Ligget. I do believe the proper authorities should be notified. If it was the Federal investigation would it be Mr. Novitsky's office to contact ?

His impact on monetizing the fraud via his marketing, not journalism as he has freely admitted, was enormous. As one of the few operating expenses for this enterprise, I wonder how much Phil the Voice cost each year?

Love the 'Tour of Courage' kit. Not enough courage to tell the truth, obviously.

My first impression was that Phil hasn't stated one fact accurately in his chosen profession for over a decade, so I can't expect him to be anything near factually accurate when speaking about an investigation he is not directly involved with.

But then I reconsidered. There is no need for Phil to say anything at all. Nor was there a need for Axel Merckx to speak about the USADA case. Both would be better served by not reacting to media inquiries. So why do they bother to speak out? I think people who have hitched themselves and their careers to the Armstrong train have been told to spread the Gospel according to Lance in the media. So the director of the Livestrong team says things that we know nobody who spent a life in cycling and a decade plus in the pro peloton would believe. And the voice of inaccurate cycling facts says things that, well come out of somewhere far left of left field. It's more than a little embarrassing for them, but they sold their souls long ago.

Yes, what would I do without my local USADA agency. Actually, they just opened up a new branch in my hometown the other day

Phil with the full fat latte on Lance's jet... All jokes aside. It's a very serious accusation he is making that Federal Investigators were attempting to bribe witnesses. I hope he can back it up.

He's spellbound by Lance. He's been brown nosing Lance as long as I can remember.

But this news tears it. PL is certifiably off his rocker. Even if he knew it were true, to say that is nuts.

Is he a ****er?

what we denizens of the clinic have to remember is that Phil IS "The Voice Of Cycling" to hundreds of millions of general public who only watch one race a year, but have suddenly been subjected to an overwhelming mass of disinformation regarding an apparent greatest cyclist of all time. They are not at all familiar with the nitty gritty, the history that we here have become "experts" in.

And so they WILL take notice of what Phil says, like it or not. It will now take more time and energy to get the truth out there, heard and believed than was otherwise the case. I have been fighting a war on an oz sports newsblog, and no matter what is written by myself and others, there are still idiotic posters not all of whom are interns or fanboys. just misguided souls who don't know better. This causes a lot of damage, just like that stupid WP article by Jenkins.

And I would have thought that public accusations of bribery and corruption of federal agents is a crime if false.

I love how he turns USADA into a phonetic word (you-sah-deh). So will he now start referring to the UCI as "You-chee"?

Phil could be in serious trouble here. This not an idle, throw away comment from the point of view of US Federal agencies.

Having said that, doesn't everyone call USADA - "you-sah-deh"? I do, and I am convinced LA and the UCI are rotten to the core.

You think Ligget didn't know?

Yes, yes I do. Faced with either Lance lied (to his face) or somebody else is trying to frame Lance (and Lance would never, ever lie to him) he's drawn the only conclusion available to him. However, feeble and pathetic it is.

Not sure if I agree. Ever been on the dark side of the internet? There's no shortage of people crying conspiracy and denouncing governments or their agency's or the evil one world government for that matter.

Not saying anyone will "go after him", but how willing and comfortable would YOU be, to be interviewed and publicly state that you believe federal investigators, from multiple agencies, were engaged in a criminal conspiracy?

I don't know. This kind of thing is the next degree of ridiculousness they need to feed the believers. They have to give the faithful something else otherwise the reality of the fraud grabs hold. And maybe this is one of the faithful trying vainly to keep the myth alive.

If we're lucky one of these fools is going to do a good job of ending the myth with a full-on "shame on you, Lance. Shame on me for believing." monologue with lots of media there to get the whole mess.

Remember when facts4lance.com was ridiculous? This is the new ridiculous. The crazier the better. This is a good thing.
