Hugh Porter didn't recognise Cancellara when he crashed in the Olympic road race last year as far as I can remember. It must be a condition which affects senile old cycling commentators.

I think it’s the fact the commentators are watching the race on a 15 inch monitor in the commentary box and we have the luxury of a 62” TV at home.

I have heard a lot of Liggett commentary thanks to YouTube user chickasmith, who has uploaded many old tours, and I enjoy the old coverage but the Armstrong tours (he is currently uploading 2002) are ridiculous because of the praise these athletes, Lance included of course, get. Armstrong's 'new pedalling technique' and 'losing 20 lbs but retaining all his power' just makes me smile. There are just so many comments that seem hilarious and if Phil Liggett knew what was going on he surely gave no hints at all. Praise, praise, praise...

No he shouldn't, if Liggett was in prison who would we Americans have to laugh at while watching races.
Just treat Liggett for what he is, the greatest cycling comedian of all time. And the more senile he goes the funnier he gets.
