He probably has a bigger motor than in 2011, but less explosiveness. Probably just as strong, but another rider compared to 2011. And a more fun one at that!

Fantastic win for Gilbert today. This win ranks up there with some of Fabian's best wins and Boonen's 2012 Paris Roubaix win.
I have to say that it is Gilbert's own fault that he lost the leadership role to GVA in his time for BMC. From 2012 to 2016 he just simply was not good enough. GVA was, indisputably, the better rider for all those seasons, so it was only fair that GVA got the chance on the cobbles.

This is the question: Was it BMC or was it Gilbert? Cause before and after his time with them he wins monuments ...

Anyway. Today was the most amazing solo I have ever seen. For 5 years it was Boonen 2012 but this was even more impressive!

He should do Amstel but skip Fleche and go all out for Liege, I reckon. Especially with Rue de Naniot near the end. I doubt he can out sprint Valverde or Henao on the Mur de Huy, but if he can hang on up to Saint Nicholas he is in with a real shout at Liege. The way he is going, he should probably manage (assuming he can hold this form). We need him at Amstel too because he is someone who might try to make the race vaguely interesting and attack on the Cauberg in its new position.

If that is the case, good. But Gilbert still has a very good chance nonetheless, assuming he is this good uphill on climbs longer than 2km as well.

So apparently his attack on Oude Kwaremont wasn't planned, he just got a gap and kept on going because there was a silence from his team on the radio. So the only way quickstep can win is by keeping quiet :lol:

Gilbert was barely mentioned at the time my post was made - Knew that if Gilbert was with Sagan he would not only work with Sagan but try to ride him off his wheel - Of course no-one could have predicted the nature of his victory.

I can imagine that team car. 'S**t, Gilbert the idiot has gone too hard and dropped everyone. If we tell him to sit up he won't listen anyway. Oh well; tell Tom he is plan A now!!'

That's his current calendar. But he already stated today and over the last days, that his goal is to win all five monuments. In that form, there should be no doubt, that he will line up for Roubaix next weekend.

I think he will skip the two semi classics.

I think he will skip the two semi classics.

Would be crazy to rest for Amstel and miss Roubaix on this form. He could win P-R in this form and, even if he could hold his form until Amstel, winning that again would be less than a podium at Roubaix imo.
