no, just tired of silly accusation toward Peter as well as "eastern" Europe

dont fall for stereotypes

westerners think they are better than easterners, english think they are better than french, french think they are better than english, americans think they are better than everyone else...

smart people know people are good and bad everywhere, making stereotypes is just eufemism for being ignorant

Have you ever met him. Have you ever spoken to him? How dare you?

You are not judged only by people who ‘know’ you and opinions will be formed by all, I am no better positioned than those who may try to defend him.

As I said, I took this as an immature attempt at humour and Sagan has admitted to being disrespectful, I only suggested that the team should help educate him in this area.

I do hope that this isn't directed at me as I've made no such comment. You know nothing about me and you really shouldn't be so quick to judge someone.

You might want to read the girl's statement again.

she said it was innapropriate (which it was considering the situation) then she laughed about it,she didnt say she was feeling degraded to just an object of lust...again,only you are putting her into such position and i just wonder where does it come from

when i see podium girls i dont think about them as an object of lust,i think about them as just podium girls doing their jobs,i dont want to have sex with them,i dont think about them in sexual terms

it does seem that podium girls are not a problem, problem are people who cannot keep it in their pants when they see pretty girls and instead of turning off TV,they complain...id like to know how would those podium girls feel if you tried to take away their jobs just because you are objectifiying them

Just took my job's annual online harrassment awareness course. Of course this is just in the U.S. but Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 defines sexual harrassment as conduct that is unwelcome. The key point to learn is that "unwelcome" conduct is determined by the receiver or victim. Hopefully Sagan learns from this and becomes a better man.

According to Slovak newspaper SME, the video showed some guy from the first row shouting at Sagan "Slap her ***!" in Slovak language. He was identified as Michal Škvarka, admin of Sagan's website and social networks.

http://orava.sme.sk/c/6758136/sagan-pri-stipnuti-hostesky-posluchol-radu-kamarata.html

I'll try to translate his interview. But mind you that this was probably never meant to be any kind of official statement, it's just a small regional branch of the newspaper that is not read by many people:

"I shouted and he touched her bottom. It was completely spontaneous. We didn't want to offend anyone. Everyone was laughing back then."

He also said that despite the criticism, Sagan's popularity is rising steeply and partly because of this affair:

"During Tour de France, the number of Peter's fans on Facebook grew by 40k in three weeks. After the race in Flanders, it was 10k in two days."

He said that Peter's fans don't mind what he did and hinted at the Facebook group encouraging people to post pictures pinching bottoms that currently has 7k fans.

About De Brabantse Pijl:

"I hope they meet on the podium. It depends on them if they discuss it face to face. It's their business. Noone else should interfere and definitely not the media."

About the critics:

"When single Sagan touches the bottom of single Maja, puritans are going mad. But they don't mind that single Maja is kissing married Cancellara, who had his wife and son there."

Link to the facebook group if anyone is interested (some of the pictures are funny):

well this is off course not true, there are many people opposed to the phenomenon of podium girls, as demonstrated by the poll of whether to keep podium girls or not on this very forum.

Maybe I should yell to Maja to slap his *** back at Brabantse Pijl? :p (I live very close to where Brabantse pijl takes place, so it shouldn't be a problem)

Sexist? And the podium girls are... what?

Super sexist? Maybe. But then, the podium girls are retardedly sexist to begin with. So, hmmmm, not sure if it matters that Sagan jokingly objectified one of them.

Perhaps do away with the inane podium girl tradition and there will be no groping, jokingly or otherwise.
No? Well then, the podium girl should slap his hand already and we can all move on.

It was a laughable, childish thing to do, and I laughed. I would have laughed harder if he had grabbed Cancellara's ****. But then, it would have been funnier.

I voted number two, but honestly, some of these posts made me giggle. Great jobs with the photo-shopping!

Seriously, though, it has been waaaay too long since I've seen a women's pro cycling podium--on TV or in person--which sets me to wondering: Does women's cycling have podium "boys"? If not, WHY NOT???!!! :D

I suppose, that not many women would like this was introduced to the ceremony nor general population (guess only feminists would invited that). I believe, that gender rules (I mean it tendencies or patterns of behaviour, not traditionalistic rules demanded by society press) do really exist - sure these are very loose, probabilistic, just tendencies; to certain extent such tendencies are natural. That has nothing to do with the rights to behave and express oneself according their individual needs and will. But in case that women were for it, then why not to introduce podiumboys (but personally I feel it unnatural) - organisers may ask both male and female cyclists on their opinion. Whatsoever, I'd say this is very minor question - if yes or no - it doesnt matter much, only my opinion.

About time someone else mentioned this, I did and everyone ignored it, good to know that home wrecker is being called out :D And it was a prolonged kiss not just a regular podium kiss.

See the other girl is long gone yet Maja looks to be stuck like that kid in Christmas Story that was dared to touch the icy pole outside school with his tongue.

Too much of this discussion imo is centred around the shirt. There's a difference between having a bad sense of humour- victimless crime, and harrasing a person - not a victimless crime.
For some reason the shirt bothers me more. I don't approve of what he did on the podium but that strikes me as something that could have been a spur of the moment thing that just happened without much thought. He obviously thought about that shirt before he bought and/or wore it and to me it says more about him.

It's good someone got it on film and shared it.

Indeed, this kind of thing shouldn't be hushed up and tolerated just because he's famous - we in the UK have found all where that kind of attitude leads.

It's funny.

Not really. The girl didn't ask for it, didn't want it and didn't have a choice in the matter. Whatever, I guess some people find weird things funny.

And it's funny that it makes some people squirm funny.

No, it isn't. The fact that it makes some people squirm indicates that it may well not have been right. The fact that one of those people was the girl herself indicates that it wasn't right.

Before You know it, We grow up and become old. Be young while You can.

The attitude that this sort of behaviour is part of being young is a big part of the problem in itself. Touching women without their consent isn't okay at any age.

And it's 2013, what Sagan did is tame for this day and age. He didn't touch Her in places which would be more controversial.

Firstly, what? What are you actually saying here? It seems like you're suggesting that acts more severe than this are common in public. Aside from that definitely not being the case, the second line is cause for concern, too. Just because he could have done something worse doesn't mean that what he did was okay - one does not justify rape on the grounds that "at least it isn't murder".

Humor, good.

Sexual harassment, bad.

Basics of human conduct 101.

The photoshopped pics are funny too.

About the only thing funny from the whole thing.

The responses from women are great.

The responses are neither here nor there for me. The fact that someone thought that they were worth mentioning on the grounds that "if these girls want it, surely that one did too" is both pathetic and saddening.

Does it matter? Maja is single ;)

No, she's not. She has a boyfriend.

I read her interview:

- She was not ok with Sagan's behaviour

- She has a boyfriend

- She's normally a secretary at Flanders classics or something. Just does podium work occasionaly.

Hey, until she has a ring on her finger she's fair game for Netserk and his ilk with their wandering hands, nods and winks.

Sagan did something inappropriate.About that i think most people are agreeing upon.
But there is a followup to this. Sagan apologized over twitter and the media to ...... the people who were up in arms against his behavior. I did not see any apology to the lady in question. The whole point is to assure the person who got hurt not not to minimize the impact to your reputation via the media. It is basic human decency. Ergo Sagan is not a gentleman:(. And to make the matters worse nobody in the Cannondale media machine or Sagan's inner circle has pointed it out to him.

Sorry my bad. I thought I read in the thread that she was single, so I presumed that she was.
