Superb race for the Womens, but jesus what SHOCKING coverage by the BBC. Having a go at Annie Last for being a MTBer, but nothing about Ferrand-Prevot doing any MTB events at all.

When you consider she's a former Junior World Champion (and reigning World Champion in the team event) in the discipline and has won two MTB World Cups this year, that's quite amusing.

Brennauer: "Surprised the race was so quiet in the first few laps. We didn't expect to see such a large bunch with us at the start of the final lap".

Rogers? Surely you mean Rodríguez? Rogers would probably be working for Gerrans even if he WAS noted for aggression in this kind of race, which he isn't.

Well, just noticed Rogers has no place in Aussie's team. I can't really see Spartacus or Hulk on this route. Spanish Armada wil take care of them.

Last hasn't ridden a top level road race since 2010, that's hardly comparable to Ferrand-Prevot

Freire said that the favourites are Degenkolb,Matthews and Gerrans. This means that the parcours is really bull****.He predicted a bunch sprint will happen....If so Cancellara will surely be there(unless he has a mechanical/crash)

If Degenkolb is there near the end, then Sagan will be there and possibly even Bouhanni. In that situation teams like Spain, Italy, Colombia and Belgium have nothing to lose by trying to create havoc in the last two laps.

It would have been the perfect course for Oscar...

253 km not seen and then world champions. :D

Hiya, can somebody quickly explain why some countries only have 3 members while others have a lot more? I can find info on a "complicated points system" on-line but not an explanation. Thank you so much

Ah, my favorite race of the year. Love it love it love.
My pick: Degenkolb or Navardauskas, in a sprint from a small group

It's due to results during the season. The idea is that Sagan won't make Slovakia have 9 people or that if a country has lots of good riders but nobody elite they won't have just 3.

I won't go into details but there's some moronic rules as part of the points system

Thought that was typically brainless from Lizzie, waiting for the race to drop in her lap. If they'd just raced to the line she'd have had a medal no question and probably no worse than silver. Thought it was a bit rich to blame Emma afterwards, but it's usually someone else's fault.

Tony Gallopin's odd on Unibet just changed from @31 to @51, anyone that knows a possible reason for such a big odd increase?

Quite the opposite, the french coach said today Gallopin and Bardet were the leaders and Bouhanni would be on his own.

Maybe they'd originally put up the wrong odds? Who knows?

Unbelievable the Dutch coach didn't select Terpstra and Langeveld because the course is too selective for them according to him

They saw the parcours today and decided it will be a bunch sprint.

its not that much of a difference, it basically indicates chances of ~2% to win vs ~3% to win

From what I could gather she was annoyed that Johansson didn't do any chasing or anything of the earlier moves and was completely invisible until the attack that preceded Lizzie's. Which, when you consider that the final move consisted of 1xNED, 1xITA, 1xGBR and 1xSWE, is a moot point. Lizzie would argue that she got her teammates to do work making pace and controlling moves, and Emma would argue she didn't have many teammates to do that so it is only fair to hold on to the few she has and expect the strong teams like the Dutch and Italians to do that job as otherwise she's entering a battle short of weapons and outnumbered.

But then, I like Emma, and I'm not all that keen on Armitstead; as you say she does seem to blame others with some regularity (though she did put the blame back on herself later on for not learning from previous mistakes) and even it was exactly as per the team plan, the way she just rode up and over Pooley in her last race without even looking at her, let alone trying to work together, bothered me (but then as you can probably tell I was a big fan of Pooley's). I don't dislike her, but in most groups she's in at the end of races there's somebody I like more.

I was suprised about a tactical balls up by Armitstead. I used to really like her, but she seems to look down her nose at people and come accross as a d!ck

That's a relatively big difference, especially betwise an increase in odds of +- 65% is considered a lot and is quite unusual without any 'news' concerning him, hence my initial question.

So far, Germany rules

Germany:3(5)+2(3)=21 points to Australia:2(5)+1(3)+2(1)=15 to Denmark:1(5)+1(3)=8.....So Emma was expected to to bring Lizzy+Marianne+Elisa to the line and end up in 4th place? Try again, UK.

Sounds like we have a similar view; I was cheering for Emma in the last 2k and glad she got a medal. I want to support Lizzie, but little things just turn me away - Like you I was gutted she didn't try and work with Pooley (a real team player) in Glasgow.

Hope the casualties of that crash were OK - was quite worried about the US (?) girl in the ditch on the right, but a few took horrid falls at speed there.

As for the men's course looks made for Sagan; I think a small selection might be able to get away from the likes of Degenkolb on the last ascent, and if they don't faff about like the ladies did they should have it.
