I don't understand this guy. The only thing he had to do was to follow Boonen's wheel. Why did he lose it? *facepalm* Boonen probly was unbeatable, but I really don't get why a rider could want to lose in such a stupid manner.

Yeah, it was a big fail that Pippo and Ballan let Boonen/Terpstra go. Perhaps they thought it was bluff, i dunno

He realised that doing nothing but following Boonen's wheel had cost him many opportunities in his career, so decided he wouldn't do it on the one occasion it was actually the right thing to do.

What made you think that he had the legs to follow Boonen in the first place? The way I've seen it, he wanted to stay with Boonen, but just didn't have legs to do so. Let's not overrate Pozzato. He's simply not in the same league as Boonen and never will be. Good rider, though....

It was not a difficult wheel to catch. Not even on the cobbles. It was decent pacing by Terpstra, who btw was the 2nd best rider today, and it had nothing to with being strong enough in the situation. Neither of Ballan/Pozzato bothered to close the little gap from Terpstra's increased speed. It was just bad, bad riding by the two of them.

Come on he clearly had the leg to stay with the two, but didn't want Ballan to jump the pull, and so he started to yell at him, and then a little gap formed with none of them wanting to close in order to favor the other one.
One of the dumbest move i ever seen.

Terpstra managed to follow Boonen for some kilometers, and before letting go Pozzato was working with Tom. If he didn't think he was strong enough, he could at least have wheelsucked the hell out of Boonen, maybe forcing him to stop.

And yes I recognize the irony of suggesting Pozzato should have wheelsucked.

Anyway, that's assuming he didn't follow Boonen because he was weak. I don't think that's the case.

Btw, if I'm not mistaken there were three riders who decided to not follow Boonen and Terpstra: Pippo, Ballan and a Europcar rider. Was it Turgot?

I think he was.
But Ballan has the small excuse that he had just bridged and he wanted to breath a little, and the Europcar rider has the excuse that he was... a nameless Europcar rider. :p

Terpstra bridged it on his own, Ballan was already there but he had just done a turn.

Good looking rider with 'style' but a total tool and wheel sucker. A plague on him and his house! If he continues in his negative style I'll never be a fan.

Definitely Olympics. Who else can ? He can do well on the hills and has decent sprint. If he trains on it he stands a nice chance of good result. Winning... With both Boonen and Sagan I don't think so. But definitely to lead Italy.

Ballan fits that description pretty well, too, and he's been in good form this year. He's shown a decent turn of speed after a long effort (Flanders) and his world championship win is still one of the best attacks I've ever seen.

And every time someone calls Pippo a wheelsucker, a bottle loses its wings. :(

Is Petacchi eligable for Olympic selection?

The situation is quiet complex as FCI didnt seem to have spoken about the CAS (or TAS?) rulling.

The Olympic road race is too short for Pozzato, he does need some selection and to arrive in a small group for be competitive.
