Camanito del Rey was where Chaves won a couple of years ago and Dumoulin finished 2nd or 3rd.
He finished 2nd.

That climb made no sense whatsoever. It's basically like 3.3km at 9% or whatever and they took like half a minute out of almost everyone last year. Nobody knew what the hell they were doing that climb, the broadcast was weird, no team controlled it, it was a glorious *** show.

I like to see what Kelderman can do. Very strong last year.

Seem to have had a bit of problems or bad luck this season so far tho? Maybe someone knows why? Injuries or something?
It's called being Wilco Kelderman, common symptoms are crashing on every 2nd piece of road and breaking bones every 2nd crash.

Confirmed by Lefevere himself. Like I said, it’s a money thing. QST certainly still have hopes for him. Lotto Jumbo offered more than QST could offer. De Plus didn’t want to wait and moved on.
Ok, thanks. I hope he knows what he's doing, because if he's going to LottoNL, i can't see him riding his own GC anytime soon, where as QS only has Mas and Jungels and they can't ride all three GT's.

De Plus would be riding as well i read some time ago on his facebook page. I don't know if he'll be domestique or if he can go for his own classification.
Surely not GC, they have Enric Mas. De Plus will probably just domestique for him a bit and stagehunt on a few occasions I'd imagine.
Mas, De Plus, and Schachmann will all ride as a 3-pronged attack. And at least one of them will finish higher in gc than any Movistar rider.

I would say at least three Movistar riders will finish higher in GC than any QS rider. They will win more stages too...
If Enric's knee issues are resolved in time he could finish top 10 and possibly even top-5. Don't see 3 Movis in top-10 - 1 of them should fail

And wasn't it the stage where Nibali rocketed up to the peloton after having crashed.

That said, I have no idea what you mean about it being what you say. I think it was just a normal finishing climb where nobody took the attack from Chaves and Dumoulin seriously because neither of them had ever made a good result in a GC before.

Yeah it was the stage of nibalis sticky bottle.
About the weirdness of the stage, it was actually quite weird indeed. Quintana was the first to attack, chaves and Dumoulin who back then weren't seen as gc threats followed and to top it off rode Quintana, one of the pre race favorites, off their wheels. Still in the peloton nobody reacted and so Quintana still finished in front of all gc contenders except purito who just did his usual purito stuff

Purito really does live on in the memory as the ultimate incarnation of the last km uphill attack guy. I wonder how long it will be before “doing a Purito” becomes associated with someone else instead.

Oddly it's a technique that has just won the Tour de France.

It's not a real Purito unless you don't have a safe advantage ahead of the ITT.

He is, although for Valverde it doesn't have to be an uphill final km. He'll sprint for a flat last km as well.

Ewan not in the Mitchelton Scott Vuelta squad. Not a consequence of him going in the break at Ride London, White says he’s known his schedule for weeks. What a disgraceful episode in the history of that team all of this has been, vindictive in the extreme.

Yeah, ok. One of a team’s young stars maliciously refused to sign a new contract, so they wisely have made sure that he will go without a GT for two calendar years, generously setting back his development. Instead they took a squad to the Tour de France that brilliantly fought for 29th place.

It's often the way with departing riders. He has a to be a chance to win stages at the Vuelta, at least I expected him to be.........

It is 100% the correct decision and White should be applauded for his decisive action- I posted that Ewan was given every chance to reset his goals and do a Viviani in 2017 and get wins on the board - What makes it more galling is that once Viviani missed out on the Giro he had no chance to ride a GT in 2017, but put his head down, collected 9 wins and set himself up for a successful 2018, while MS were happy for Ewan to ride the Vuelta if his form and attitude were good in the Surrey Classic and Tour of Poland, but unfortunately Ewan chucked a tantrum last Sunday - The most pissed off person at MS has to be Mezgec whose program continually changes.

White explicitly said that his schedule was decided weeks ago, so no, they weren’t “happy for him to ride the Vuelta” and their vindictiveness has nothing to do with his supposed “tantrum”. I have no idea why you are so determined to find ways to mask the malicious behaviour of this team towards a rider who didn’t sign an extension. “Decisive action”, “should be applauded”, Jesus Christ is Matt White your Dad?

I hope Ewan does as much damage to their image in Australia as possible on his way out.

Its simple - I post info about MS from time to time and which has proven to be mostly accurate - White is being publically kind to Ewan by not criticising him in any way - You seriously believe White when he states Ewan was in the break, got a flat and couldn't make it back to the break who had over 7 minutes on the peleton - Gee, Ewan threw the toys out of the cot and you are doing the same - This is the irony - At the end of the day, Ewan could have ridden the Vuelta if he adopted a more professional attitude.

So without Chaves, and probably without Adam, its once again all out for one of the Yates brothers. Simon is great, and is one of the favourites, but it clearly hasn't worked out for them so far. Whats their best GC placement this year?

Yes, I believe White when he says Ewan’s schedule was decided weeks ago. No I do not believe that MS are motivated by “kindness” towards a rider that that they have systematically screwed over since he refused to sign a new contract.

Im not “throwing the toys out of the cot”. I’m not a huge partisan of Ewan’s nor did I have anything against MS as a team. I had no emotional investment in either beyond being vaguely well disposed towards both. I have however come to have contempt for the vindictiveness of the MS management over all of this. They tell a rider to focus his whole season around the Tour. Then they drop him at the last minute after he doesn’t sign a contract extension in favour of yet another domestique to aid their desperate battle for a top 30 on GC. Then they decide to leave him without any GT at all in nearly two years, knowing that will significantly undermine the career development of a young rider. It’s malice and vindictiveness all the way down with that bunch. And of course they think nothing of screwing over Kluge and Mezgec, destroying their seasons as mere collateral damage.

Ewan might probably just not be strong enough for the Vuelta stages. Binckbank tour and tour of Britain suits him better I believe.
They have Trentin in La Vuelta (with Mezgec in support).
Then some support for Yates S. with Haig, Verona, Kreuziger maybe?

No, that's not both sides. That's what you are assuming to be MS's side, not what is definitively MS's side. You don't know both sides, seemingly.
